Hertz - Longest hike to car
What is the longest hike from the counter to the car?
At Edinburgh airport it is about 10 minutes. The agents gabble directions which first timers could not possibly remember, and it is a complicated maze. If you have heavy baggage and it is raining it's awful.
There is a "shuttle bus" but this turns out to be the remote car park bus (only one vehicle in service) which takes about 15 minutes to go round through all the remote parking lots as well, slowly, on it's trip - and it is not apparent where it stops at the terminal (not in front of it, but off to one side).
Whose idea was this, then?

I recently returned a Hertz car in Anchorage, and there's no garage for returns -- you just pull your car into a pretty faraway lot, and walk all the way to the terminal. No shuttle bus that I know of (but then, this was for a 2am departure). And in the Anchorage cold.
I was astounded that there was no conveyor belt.

Yes, considering the cold that is quite astounding!

Don't you find that astounding? I sure do.

No recognition at all of my Hertz Club Gold status! Just "put the keys in the dropbox please"! Astounding. I bet Hertz employees get a conveyor belt anytime they want.

The rental lots at DCA are really far away from terminals B and C. At least a 10 minute walk, it seems. They're right in front of terminal A though.

Some Herts locations are company owned, others are franchises.
Many of the franchise locations seem to not care about status.
I simply will not rent from Herts in Madison, WI (I know, of all places...)
They don't understand "status" or "customer service" or "#1 Gold."
Perhaps Anchorage is a franchise as well.

Has anyone tried writing a letter to Hertz, asking for conveyor belts for Gold members, and/or acknowledgement of status? The last time I experienced the subpar service of the Madison location, I was so astounded I almost ate my hat.

I've haven't had a chance to ask for those exact things yet. But, the last time I sent a letter I did try to convey my surprise, but was rather dumbfounded not to receive a reply.
pynchonesque: Did you have to consult a hatter after your experience? Quite frankly if something like that happened to me I would try to hatch a scheme to get back at them. Reminds me of that time I had reserved a hatchback and they were out.

Sounds like the experience I had when they couldn't give me my car because there were hatchlings under it... I must admit, hats off for the Hertz guys, they whisked me off on a conveyor and got me a car that was just back, after an astoundingly quick clean of it I was off again! Even got some vouchers for the trouble!

SMessier,
That inferior sort of treatment is old-hat to me, and by now has become far from astounding. I had reserved a lovely Isuzu Sombrero, but instead was astoundingly "upgraded" to the atrocious Citroen Chapeau! Well, after some arguing, I ended up driving a Pontiac Milliner -- unfortunately, the miles were capped at 250/day. Hate it when that happens.
