Called the 800 number this morning to reserve a van in Holland. Asked for the international desk, and got Ruby. Give her my Hertz number, to which she replies "oh my computer isn't working today, and it looks like everyone else here is busy. Why don't you wait a while and call back and someone should be able to help you then." And then there was a click on the line and dead air.
I guess transferring the call wasn't an option. To me the bigger question was, why did she answer the phone if she wasn't able to assist the customer on the other end?
After that I'm not sure why, but I did call back, and was on the wrong end of sticker shock after the call. One day rental of a van in Holland was $362 plus the airport rental fee, CDW, etc. etc. etc. Oh, and did I mention that you had to guarantee the van with a credit card, and if you cancelled less than 72 hours before the rental you'd incur a penalty of $125, charged to your credit card?
Same vehicle at National? $189 including the airport fee and insurance. No credit card deposit or penalty for cancellation.
