Im already #1 Gold with Hertz, but just got a new invitatino from Amex Platinum. Is there any difference...? Im wondering if I should just stick with my current membership or if I should sign up on the offer.

Could you not just ask them to waive the fee for the membership that you already have when it comes up for renewal?

"just got a new invitatino from Amex Platinum"

If the invitation is from Amex to obtain a Platinum card which has free Gold #1 as a benefit, I would suggest trashing it. The annual fee is now $395 for the card and probably not worth it unless you fly CO or NW a lot, IMO (free club access).

If you already have the Amex Platinum card and this is an offer to obtain Gold #1 for free, go for it. The Gold #1 card obtained through Amex Platinum never has an annual fee and doesn't require a minimum number annual rentals to keep it.

Note that Amex Platinum has similar programs for National and Avis.

Thanks Bill. Regardin the Avis and National benefits, do I have to request those or will they will sent to me automatically? I will keep the Amex for now, despite the high fee, I still think I can extract some benefit out of it. Thanks.

I've had the National Emerald card for a while and unsure of the details. I'll probably never use it again now that they are partnered with Alamo. Call Plt Amex customer service. They should be able to help.

For Avis, you need to call Plt Amex customer service and request the Avis Preferred card. They will give you a promo code and transfer you to Avis. Avis will then send you a form to fill out and return. I'm currently in the process of doing this.
