I made a reservation with AVIS and got this e-mail message - original with 2 wrong spellings:
"Thank you for booking with Avis.
Thank you for visiting the Avis internet site to make a booking ..........
May we remind you to bring your driving licence and two Avis honoured
credit/charge cards."
===========================================
Why are they asking for two credit cards? Any ideas?
Who writes this canned e-mails at AVIS?

I just made a couple of reservations on the internet today & I checked the confirmations I received. They DO NOT mention anything about the requirement for two credit cards!

I will show them the 2 credit cards. But I think it's a joke. And 2 spelling errors in a short (canned) e-mail-message.

I don't think those are spelling errors...I think that licence and honoured are proper British spellings.

Not to mention "driving licence". In the US it's usually drivers license.

I've also made an Avis reservation today. Nothing was said about needing two credit cards. Hmmmm.... Strange, huh?
Maybe Avis doesn't trust you. I know I don't http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I believe it depends on what car group you're booking. The same message has popped up for me when booking luxury cars in Europe, but not for regular cars. I have never been asked to pull out the extra card upon collecting the car, though.

I concur with The Viking. Two credit cards are sometimes listed as a requirement in the fine print for luxury cars, besides the higher age limit.
In Switzerland:
The minimum age for all luxury cars is 30 years. Luxury car rentals require two different credit cards, one of which must be issued either by American Express or Diners Club.
In Germany, for special cars theoretically either:
- Avis credit card, American Express Gold, Platinum or Centurion, German Gold Eurocard
- one Avis-recognized card and reservation via Lufthansa
- co-branded Lufthansa Senator Card
- Avis Full Credit Voucher and one Avis recognized credit card
- two credit cards, one of which must be American Express or Diners Club
A question for those who got an Audi S8: what category was that car under? Sounds substantially nicer than the diesel E270 listed under 'luxury'...

What does this mean? Please explain.

I just booked a Mercedes E200 for a weekend at Frankfurt Main Airport and got an e-mail confirmation from Avis. No mention of 2 credit cards in there. I am not sure what the criteria for deciding that is. Maybe you can call Avis and ask them why the 2 credit card requirement.

I was joking.
Just finished a rental from FRA. No mention of 2 cards when booking but I was asked for 2 when I picked up the car (Audi S8) I would have thought my Centurion card could have covered full replacement value but wasn't about to try and get into that conversation in German! So, I threw out a low limit Visa which seemed to keep them happy.

Maybe they saw you were from Florida and assumed you would be confused by the rental application (I believe it's similar to the Florida election ballot) and have arranged for a tutor to assist you. Of course, you'll want to charge the tutor on the card with the lowest interest rate as it may take quite a while to complete the application process. Sorry, but I just couldn't resist http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

AVIS has the 2 cards in their fine prints.
I found this on the Internet:
