Never rented from Alamo before, but need a car in OGG over Christmas and they are the only co avail. So, I went in cold, no membership, etc. Saw the HH offer, and the rate came up HIGHER than the regular rate for me as an "off the streets" renter. Very interesting. In all, wanted $30 extra for the HHonors points on a 7 day rental...

FWIW, your car rental rate (or code used) does not have any effect whatsoever on HH points earned, as the points are credited by Hilton, and the only requirement is to show Alamo car rental agreement or car keys at check-in at the hotel. Alamo rental must be in conjucntion with a Hilton stay.

Keep in mind that besides HH points, you can earn airline miles directly from Alamo.

Must have just been problems with your particular dates. I just used code 6T for a 7 day August rental of a convertible on Maui, and the rental rate went down from $296 to $188 for the week! :)

no luck with 6T so far, but luckily my travel companion has a code for his meeting that brought it down enough to handle. I did notice that playing with 6T had the rates coming down abit closer to my arrival dates - perhaps it's a capacity controlled discount that has a different effect on rates as you get closer to your rental date.

On Maui right now. Did the usual and great 6T code for $188 for a week-long convertible rental.

Arrived at Alamo OGG and got something new and different. In addition to the Chrysler Sebring convertibles I've always gotten here and which was confirmed on my reservation...this time I got a Chrysler PT Cruiser convertible.

We took it and really like it much better than the clunker Sebring. This PT Cruiser is the 2.4L Turbo Touring Edition. It's like being in a small roadster but sitting up off the ground higher. Nice looking roll bar with the top down. Handles great and I like being in the smaller profile car. Perfect for 2. Might get a little tight in the back seat and trunk with a family and lots of luggage though.

They pretty much will just put you in a Sebring unless you ask for the PT Cruiser at check-in. I don't think they have as many PTs as they do the Sebrings. Another passenger on the plane over gave me this tip. We're loving it (and the 6T code)!

I don't have any coupon. Just the AAA or Costco card.
You can call and ask if they need to see the cards in order to give the discount. Most of the times they dont.

The current issue of "This Week Maui" has the 6T ad, but it states:

deeman...6T still not showing for your dates in September, but the rate without the code seems to be only $216 on the web site. That's only $28 more and a pretty good regular price for a convertible, IMHO.

Same here. I tried the military codes for SFO next week and they don'yt work either, entertainment OB neither.

Yeah, the termination of the 6T code is really bumming me out. I called up Alamo and they said that the 6T code is indeed no longer valid. Plus I am having the same trouble as the last two posters in that I cannot find a new rate code that the website will accept for a convertible.

This really bites. I'll be in Hawaii from Nov. 10th to Nov. 21st and with the 6T rate code I was saving over $220 from their current "lowest" available rate. Problem is I don't see another Rental company with any lower offers either!

Any help or new rate codes would be much appreciated.

Remember to book one car class BELOW that which you want to end up with, it automatically upgrades you.
Its Sams Club, the last time I used it last week they asked for the coupon I told 'em it was automatic and no coupon was necessary, no problem as it was an up done at time of booking and not when you get there. Now looking over the back of the coupon it says"orginal must be presented at counter" I had no idea it was a coupon that one needed to cut out. I also did the paper work in the term so that might have helped especially with a nice long line growing behind me.
just pass by a Sams and tell 'em you forgot to pick up a travel booklet, walk in the exit doors as thats where they are.

FYI Update: Recently returned from Hawaii and looked in the same Maui brochures that previously had the 6T Rate Code advertisements in them...and they are not to be found any longer. :(

Well I just tried the UA link to book an SUV for 3 days next week in Toronto and it came back at $88CDN a day.

Booking with no codes etc via alamo.co.uk gave me a rate of $38CDN!!

This works out at a total of $204CDN for 3 days including a tank of gas! (86UKP) Half what all the others (Hertz, Avis) wanted for the same class!

Currently the hot deals section at www.alamo.com has convertibles at Hilo, Honolulu, Kona, Lihue and Maui for $35.99/day or $177.99/week. I have 2 days reserved in Honolulu and 3 days in Hilo next week, with no coupons. I know to ask for a PT Cruiser versus a Sebring. Does anyone know of a better deal?

Just a note, the last two times that I used this code I got an incredible rate (which is all I care about) however an FYI is that I was told on both occasions at MCI and PHX that this rate is not eligible for FF miles. I'm not complaining just an FYI.

Depends on the location. My rez. in Hawaii included the extra driver but they charged me anyway. I argued with them but gave up & called CS when I got home. They reversed the charge. Get everything in writing, as in email, and you'll be OK.

BTW, I just did a rez. and tried changing country of origin to Ireland and my rates went UP. Tried various other countries and everyone made my rate go up. Stick with USA.

Using my Costco corporate code and their $25 off coupon, I lowered the price of the convertible I rented in Maui (Nov 11-17) from my previously locked rate of $289 to $258 (tax included) yesterday. Includes unlimited mileage and one additional driver. :)

Used the Costco code for the 25% off and one additional driver for a Convertible on Maui (OGG). Our initial quoted rate for 1 Week plus 3 days...was $508 total.

I was re-pricing regularly and finally about 2 weeks prior to arrival that same code netted a lower rate for the same 10 days convertible of $405. So canceled the old reservation and rebooked a new one saving an additional hundred bucks.

So watch and reprice those rates often, as it seems Alamo discounts even deeper if they have excess inventory going into the final weeks. But don't wait too long or they could go up.

BTW...OGG Alamo never asked to see my Costco card.

Checking back at Alamo.com I re-booked (for about the 5th time) again and saved another $30 for my 11/11-11/17 trip to Maui. One week convertible rental (using Costco discount code and $25 off coupon) was booked for $230.87.

The Costco/Alamo codes include a free 2nd driver, at least when made over the Internet. If you go to the Costco site/ Travel/Alamo you will find the current discounts/coupons/codes. In fact, the Costco site will eventually link you directly into the Alamo site with the codes filled in.

2 days ago, I booked an alamo rental in SFO for this weekend.
I am sitting in DEN waiting for my final leg to SFO to begin and decided to see if the rates were any better than when I first booked.

I retried the AMEX 15% off codes 7013603, 7014604 and a few other non-Amex but received an error message saying the Corp ID I entered was not valid. I did eventually find a valid code and the rates were about the same ($10 more for total rental). But, I found the missing.

I don't think the codes reached their expiration date or anything. But, I did notice a few subtle changes in the user interface (i.e. before I entered the pickup city as SFO and it worked. Now, when I enter SFO, it asks me to select a specific location from the list of available SFO-area sites) . . . was just curious of they cleaned up their list of codes too.

I'd make up a back-up reservation just in case. Just because the website doesn't indicate you need to show i.d., I'm assuming you are not a government contractor and are therefore not entitled to the rate. If they DO ask for i.d. and you can't provide one, then you'd be S.O.L.

I have no doubt it will work there as you never actually talk to a human when checking in, it's all done at the kiosk. Thanks!!! Should work great on long term rentals. FYI - code did not work for my rental in Aruba, maybe it's only good in the US?

I have noted that I get the lowest weekly rates booking with europcar for summer 2008 in southern europe using codes 45450563 or 45797144.

First i would like to say THANK YOU to RedDawnGrl.... you have struck gold with this one...

Indigo.. i dont know about you.. but this fricking code saved me damn near 120 bucks on a rental... Not only does it drop the rate per day to half.. it also includes insurance. This Code 100% works... when using a Kiosk... Because of exactly what Indigo said... u have to deal with no one.. so who is going to ask for a Government ID???

Recreation... stop being so doubtful... even if the code doesnt work, using a regular coupon and a walmart id u will still get a great rate... bottom line is.. u have nothing to lose..

So far i have used this Code twice at the MIA Alamo.. and both time they worked... even got a free upgrade one time due to them being out of cars.... .and ended up paying 88 bucks.. for a MiniVan for 4 days... when my original rental was for a Midsize.

Also.. it always helps to try and see if u can get one of the workers attention who work the lots... u can simply tell them to "work" with you.. and 9/10 times they will tell u... take what u want... as long as u give them an incentive... (10 bucks usually works)

I've used it 8 times and have never been asked for a coupon. As long as you put it in when you book the reservation you should be fine. If you're really worried, just check in at the automated kiosk :)

I just got a great rate ($116 all-in for mid-size) for a week in Maui booking thru the Costco website and then putting in the coupon code for an Entertainment Book $20 discount (AD3397JJO). I was surprised it allowed me to combine the two. This is for January, 2009. I'm sure they will ask for the coupon. Second driver free too. :)

For some reason it gives me double price for a 2 week rental in Florida. $514 for a mid-size vehicle while ID #675899 gives me ~$325 for the same vehicle.

$30 / day is what I am getting with this.

We are going to Hawaii in February and I was looking for some good rates on convertibles. I know that Alamo & Budget have the $179.99/wk rate right now.

However, I fiddled with some rate codes and got that deal, plus the Entertainment contract discount 10%, plus the $25off/wk rental code. $266.08 for 9 days in Maui in a convertible (less than $30/day out the door).

Only thing that could be better was if it included LDW.

USE:

This actually increased my MCO quote by $150. I'd also be wary of them honoring the LDW if there was an actual accident. The rules state that LDW is not included for leisure hire even if used correctly, and for official duty hire, there has to be proof provided. Using it incorrectly ;) there's no proof, so no reason for them not to back out and not cover the car. And doing that, you might screw yourself out of covereage by other means like a credit card.

Just FYI Corp ID 7012298 is for Maui Viajes. Asked Alamo if anything was required upon pick up, she said nothing required.

Got a good rate for a rental in July in Florida.

Just used that Maui Viajes code 7012298 and got a really great deal on a convertible at LGB mid-May - $50 cheaper than "rack rate" and includes full CDW. thanks :)

Several posters at the las vegas advisor forums reported that the kiosk would not work with maui code but no problems at the counter with it. I would have no fears using it...just my 2 cents

Had no problem with picking up my convertible in Long Beach using the Maui Viajes code 7012298. He asked if it was booked by my company since it had included LDW and I said no, a travel agent -- and that was it.

Same thing goes for AD1336ADK for a weeky rental which is on the Alamo site.
