Starwood Preferred Guest - Amex Plat comp to SPG Gold, do you have to requalify?

Tried a search but nothing came up.

I was comped to SPG Gold last year by Amex Platinum. This year I have 8 qualifying stays (stupidly, I credited a couple one nighters to UA for the Business Becomes Pleasure deal)...anyway, do I have to do 2 mattress runs at the local 4P to stay Gold or is it a perpetual comp?

If I do have to requal, any opinions on whether it's worth it for around $120 (and that would satisfy the 2000 bonus points promo as well). I'll probably have about the same level of *wood activity next year (10-15 stays at mostly Cat 4 - 5 properties).

My understanding, and experience, is that it is on-going (no need to re-qual.).

As long as you are still an American Express Platinum cardholder in good standing, American Express should let us know sometime before February and the account will be held at the Gold elite level.

William -

At the risk of possibly inciting a riot http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif, are AA Plat comps for gold being extended as well, or has that program ended?

Thanx,
-Plat

Does this program apply to Amex cards at the "Platinum" level (i.e., both credit and charge cards), or just the old-school Amex Platinum card with the $300 annual fee?

No. And it's $395/year.

Still alive and kicking, but as UpgradeMe suggests, I think the fee for this card is $395. American Express would probably be a better source of information on that than me, however. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

My Gold status, which was comped due to my PLT status with AA, definitely expired March 1. (I should earn it back in the next week or two, but my experience is that AA PLT status is no longer worth anything to SPG.)

I think AA is American Airlines - not American Express...

Right you are. Above post is deleted. You may get Gold status with an airline Direct Deposit promotion in the beginning, but it isn't forever. You have to make the stays to keep your elite status after a year or so, especially if the promotion you signed up for has expired.
