Starwood Preferred Guest - Platinum Luggage Tags

I just saw my first set of Platinum luggage tags and wondered where or how they received. Looked at the SPG site and called customer service without luck. How do you get these?

looks like someone is holding back on us? There has to be somone that frequents this site that has them. Maybe William can shed some light on this one?

We got them with the new cards a couple years ago, I think the year after the clock.. Don't remember getting them last year, and this year is a mystery, as we have still not received our 2003 Plat/Gold cards...

My platinum luggage tags came as part of my 2002 Starwood Platinum kit. The 2003 kit appears not to contain any tags -- which is a shame, as I quite liked mine!

Sadly, my address has changed so I no longer use my old tags.

William, any chance for 2003 tags?

Do you really want them that badly? They really don't do anything special for you, except allow you to advertise that you're a platinum.

Under the old ITT Sheraton system, the luggage tags were very useful, in that they contained your name and membership number and the toll-free number to Sheraton.

If your luggage ever got lost, or you left them at the hotel, etc., the possibility of return was made easier. For instance, some people who had their luggage found, would simply ask the finder if they can drop them off at any Sheraton hotel in their city (minimal inconvenience vs. the alternatives), and the owner would then simply make arrangements for pick-up by friends or for return to themselves.

The SPG Plat tags, issued in the past, only had one's name engraved: Nice, but not as useful as the old system.

I know that there are other ways to have a lost-and-return service (some free, some for a fee), but I considered this a valuable addition to my hotel membership. One worth even paying for. Kind of an extra insurance policy.

I'd be surprised if they continue sending them out anymore, especially to those who have already received them. Considering that the previously issued SPG Plat tags don't even have expiry dates, they can be perpetually used.

They weren't in mine. I got the packet yesterday, and it had the card and booklet, as well as a letter that very oddly "welcomed" me to Platinum status, which I have had for a couple of years now.

I did not receive tags last year (comped Platinum so that was OK), and got my 2003 kit (earned) yesterday, with no tags. Just a card and a very snazzy brochure. That's all.

I got my tags in 2001 I think. The last two years, there has not been anything included in the Plat package.

From the beginning of the SPG program.

Year 1 = set of leather baggage tags (2small 2big)

year 2 = clock

year 3 = plastic tags

year 4 = nothing

year 5 = nothing

Actually, I found one very handy! The zipper pull broke off my leather ticket holder, and the metal tie with the tag makes a GREAT zipper pull! hehehe

I just got a set of platinum luggage tags in the mail. Nice surprise! The letter said it's because of the Freddies win.

Not personalized, though; just a spot to put in a business card or such.

Thanks William, SPG. I really liked the quality of the actual tag loop -- I've had too many of those cloth loops that come with other tags break on me and these look a lot better.

If you really need to personalize, I'll bet a SHARPIE would work just fine. :-)

Mtaachi, I think it's just us Canadians Starwood is ignoring again. Never got a Zagat last year, nor the new guide to their best properties sent out earlier this year. Did get the tags two years ago when I qualified for Plat, and those had my name and address embossed on the back.

I think that some of us need to get a life if we are so concerned about luggage tags.

Got mine on Friday. Quite nice given that I received two clocks whatever year that was with cards that were good for 2 years and therefore never received luggage tags.

What's this about a membership to zagats.com? Did I miss something?

Received mine this weekend and the attachment wiring is much better than any other luggage tags I have used before.

I think the tags are nice and the wiring is very contemporary and better than any other luggage tag, which is what sets them apart.

Me of little faith. I guess tags are now arriving for those of us outside the USA. Got mine this morning. They're quite like the original FT ones, into which one slides a business card. My FT ones lasted about two trips on a checked bag, and then started to crack and crumble.

The metal "strap" is the same as the old SPGPlat tags had. Interesting, but not very functional for my needs. Nice envelope though.

Alright, I'll stop complaining and thank SPG for this gesture.

Ok, I got my pair this week too. I didn't get excited with the plastic tags as it's a material and construction that'll crack the first time it goes through a carousel. The metallic wire loop is also too sharp and hard. I can just see how it'll cut into my luggage handle and put in some unnecessary wear.

Disappointment.

It is a nice gesture and one I appreciate.

But the tags themselves are a bit on the poor quality side, IMHO. Very "crackable" is how I'd put it.

I wouldn't be surprised if the very nice packaging and letter they came in, cost more than the tags themselves!

it was nice packaging, wasn't it? ellen degeneres does a great bit on packaging in her most recent HBO special. the packing of these tags immediately made me think of ellen's bit.

I got my tags, I got my Zagat, I got my Best of Starwood ( only problem with the latter was that the Westin Edmonton made it to the list--how or why?? Who knows--but it was NOT for customer service !!) So I have no outside USA complaints!!

Are they same as last year? I recall being more impressed with the metal band used to secure the tag to your bags then with the tags themselves. Maybe it was just me.

These were the first ones I've received, so unable to compare with previous versions.

So now I am trapped in time. Are we talking about tags sent out in September, or tags sent out with 04 re qualification within the last few weeks... are there two sendings of these tags, or only once for all? My confusion arises because I received them last summer, did not receive them thereafter, Plat though I be.

This was last year's offer. Not sure how anyone may have gotten them recently unless there were some extras laying around and the fulfillment center threw them in a kit going out to be rid of them.

I am assured now that there are no longer any available.

ok, this is getting a bit ridiculous.

No tags. I've asked multiple times. Been told they were sent to my registered address...

But the only things i've received at this address in the past few months are:

W catalog
Westin romantic weekend offer
SPG Statement for Q3 2003
Timeshare pitch

No luggage tags.

I wouldn't mind so much if (a) I didn't really like the ones I got two years ago (with the little metal loopie thing) and (b) if it weren't stolen (why, I don't know).

I didn't get any.. I'm a new plat this year though.
