As I searched for a hotel on spg.com I found this under the Sheraton Newarks website:

Special Condition

From April 3, 2003 through December 31, 2003, there are no pool or pajama parties allowed in any of the guest rooms.

That must be some room to have a pool in it!

I don't know about the PJ parties, but stayed here last w/end and they have not yet upgraded the beds!!! I suspect it is not a corporate owned location... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I suspect this has to do with the current trend of young kids having 'hotel/pool'parties for their birthdays and such.

I heard this from my married friends with kids who have been going to these all year. I've even set up a couple rooms for a friend of mine this year at the sheraton for her daughter to have a hotel bday party. Nothing like 15 7-8years olds having a slumber party....LOUD. But did get quiet at a decent hour, so should have been no disturbances.

Another possible reason for the rules - many high school groups that are touring NYC stay out at EWR and take busses into Manhattan - much easier on student (and parent's) travel budgets http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Somewhat OMNI but it's becoming a better hotel. They didn't have the Sweet Sleeper beds the last itme I stayed there (September) but at least the top floor was nice.

Probably the no pool party rule is because the pool is close to the lobby and front desk. Who wants to check in and see people running around with suits on.

More OMNI: Newark is not a bad community. Many a Flyertalker has tried the Spanish and Portugese restaurants right off Penn Station. Good prices and plenty of food. If you have a long layover take the NJ Transit train to downtown Newark. It's worth a try

Here's a question... what if you don't sleep in pajamas? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif Can you go to the party? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I'll say!

Especially as apparently beginning January 1, 2004...pool and pajama parties have a green light to party on!

Must have been some long term contract issue with a group of anti-pool/pajama party guests, who were staying at the hotel from April 3, 2003 to December 31, 2003.

Frankly, I'll be glad when those prudes hit the road and get out of this hotel, so we can all get back to those wet and wild parties and pillow fights!

How exactly can you have a pool party in your guest room?

I guess you are allowed to have a Pajama Party at the pool, but not in your room.

...or in the hallways.

Something happened to trigger this rule. My guess is that it was the "we're having a party for our kid at your hotel" thing. How many kids born in winter months dream of having a pool party?

I've been asked to sign "I agree not to have a party" statements at checkin time at a number of Marriott and Hilton hotels recently. They were making *everybody* sign them as a condition of staying at the hotel.

I've noticed that at a number of airport properties of various brands on Friday nights. The Embassy Suites PHL comes to mind. I was told that it wasn't little kids that were the problem, but bunches of high school students.

Depends on what they look like.

Some people, I'd pay good money to see. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Other people, I'd be grateful they kept their suits on . . .

That is the problem with these disclaimers, it removes all notions of commonsense just to protect their own @ss. In most cases, it just gives bored (or drunk) travelers ideas! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

well, i think the point of this thread is that the four points would be better if you plan on throwing a pajama party. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

The question still stands, is the Four Points any better and is the Sheraton that bad? I'm flying into EWR on Saturday and out on Tuesday so which place would you stay if you had to?

If you are trying to save a little bit of money, go with the Four POints. It's not the greatest of hotels, the staff is pretty average and the rooms out of retro 80's.

I stayed there twice and really did not care for the property. Platinum got me an average sized room. Told "no suites." Rates can be about 59-79.

I recently started staying again at the Sheraton after a major renovation. Friendly staff, a decent restaurant and, as a Platinum, you will get upgraded to the CLub Floor (top floor.) They did not have the Sweet Sleeper beds the last time I stayed there but the rooms were spacious, the bed fine and nicely done.

They do have Shuttle service every 20 minutes.

As for the pajama/pool parties... I don't wear pajamas so I guess I can't go http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I normally get $79-89 a night at the Sheraton EWR.

If you can get a good rate, go with the Sheraton. It's worth a few extra dollars for comfort and good service.

Wierd language. You can't have a pool party in a hotel room, and what the heck is a "pajama party" to begin with? Does anyone still own pajamas? I guess room-keggers were always OK as long as everyone was fully clothed or fully n*de. And as of 1/1/04, PJ's are back in business.

Why didn't the hotel simply post a notice saying "Here's our noise policy, and we actually enforce it"?

Only thing I've ever seen that was remotely similar was at the Hard Rock Hotel in Vegas. They have a policy that you are not allowed to bring a full case of beer up to your hotel room. Less than 1 case is OK, full case is not. The security guard actually stood there by the elevator while I pounded one beer, and then he let me pass with the remaining 23.

The Sheraton isn't that bad. I'd stay there over the Four Points at EWR any day. Not that its great, but it really wasn't bad. I was there on a Sat and Sun night.

Four Points Newark is actually at Elizabeth, not Newark. The location is more convenient if you don't have a car. There are restaurants within walking distance. The room decor is a bit old and tired, but with plenty space. The front desk staffs are very helpful and friendly. The continental buffet breakfast is not bad as a Four Point hotel.

Sheraton Newark is at an odd location because it's not too far from a state prison. You do need a car or use hotel shuttle to get around. The hotel is a standard Sheraton, with spacious room and decent furniture. I have stayed here many times but don't think I ever get an upgrade to a suite. The front desk staff is very accommodating and helpful. They have an indoor pool and a small gym room. They do have a club room, or you will get a breakfast coupon at weekend (as Platinum).

Thanks all! Will give the Sheraton a try on Saturday and Four Points (because of the weekday price) on Monday.

i was wondering if justin or william can get an "official" reason for why pajama parties aren't allowed at Sheraton Newark (or even what the official starwood definition of a "pajama party" is). http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

many thanks in advance....

Why, are you the reason why all the pajama parties got shut down in the first place? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Interesting that the Sheraton Newark Airport is "standard Sheraton", in that it was originally a Radisson. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

But there's actually a serious question regarding parties and "no-party" documents. I hate late night noise in hotels as much as anyone else, but I've decided to refuse to sign these stupid pledges. At one Marriott property in New Jersey they said "you don't have to sign it if you don't want to", at another I signed it and then haven't been back (nor did I get an answer to my complaint filed via the survey I was sent in the mail).

Do my fellow FlyerTalkers feel signing "no-party" pledges is a necessary part of staying in a quiet hotel, or do they agree with me that the whole thing is idiotic and it makes no sense to offend 200 business travellers because some kid might have a party?

I don't think Justin or William even care, especially seeing that they can set whatever local hotel policy they wish. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Fellow members of the Pajama Liberation Front!

We must rise up against our oppressors! This ban infringes our civil rights and the US constitution (sub-clause 11.i(b): no law shall be made restricting the right to bear pajamas)

I propose a night of action to protest. We will all gather at the oppressors location, Sheraton Newark, and conduct a mass pajama party. We will flagarantly wear lurid pajamas! And more! We will eat popcorn, dance to Britney Spears and watch Nick at Night!

I have dream - and I was wearing pajamas when I had that dream!
