Starwood Preferred Guest - Sheraton Lansing leaves June 30, 2009

Check in staff was friendly. The hotel seemed to be maintained well. I stayed on a Saturday night and there were 100's of people in and around the lobby that were part of a conference going on.
I was "upgraded" to the club level. I can't figure out how it was an upgrade as the room was very average. Not that it was bad, but an upgrade?
The club level lounge is only open Tuesday - Friday. So the upgrade didn't provide a better room, nor any other benefits.
For the price paid, $84, the Sheraton Lansing beats its competition, but doesn't do anything spectacular.

I spent last Saturday night here as well for the company Christmas party. At check-in the front desk clerk noted that I am a Preferred Guest, so I mentioned that this was my first Starwood stay ever (Shhhh, I'm a HH loyalist). He also gave me an "upgraded" room, which had a king bed, sofa, and refrigerator. The rate was $69/night that I booked online, versus the company's negotiated rate of $70. That was somewhat shocking considering the amount of business we give them all year long. All visitors are booked there by default unless they make their own arrangements.
The facilities overall are very impressive, and the food was pretty good. I don't know if the catering was done in-house or not.
Since the only HH options in Lansing are Hamptons, I would probably choose this hotel again.
Nice job, Starwood.

I just stayed here the past 2 nights to requalify for plat next year. I had never been to this hotel despite living 10 minutes away for years. I was impressed with the quality of the rooms, service and the decor of the lobby and reception areas. Would definetly recommend it to visitors.

Just stayed there last night, staying on government rate as an SPG Gold. The clerk mentioned my SPG status and CC also. I suppose my "upgrade" was the same as MilesMonster's. King bed (which was actually part of the rate I paid for), sofa and a mini-bar with a decent sized fridge. Nothing spectacular. But, I was a little miffed that the room directly across from mine had a plaque that said "SPG room" on it and mine didn't. Since I don't know who was in there, I can't say if it was better or different from mine except for the plaque. My faucet started dripping after I took a shower that evening and didn't quit no matter what I did. Work was being done on the pool, so it was unavailable (darn.) I ordered a pizza and a beer (Bell's Oberon, a Michigan must-have in the summer) and I have to say the pizza was EXCELLENT. A thick layer of cheese, fresh mushrooms and huge strips of real bacon. There was a coupon in the room, definitely recommended. Also, they deliver cookies to your room at about 6 pm. There were prominent banners everywhere indicating it had won some sort of SPG #1 award for customer satisfaction. I wasn't unsatisfied (although I did bring the persistent drip to the attention of the front desk) but I wasn't blown away either. I get a good rate and may come back since I work here and live elsewhere, but I am going to try some of the other Lansing hotels since my rate is the same everywhere.

Mid-August can be difficult in Lansing, as it's the time that school starts up again at Michigan State.
I've not stayed here, but colleagues have and have been pleasantly surprised. We used to stay at the Radisson downtown, but they prefer the Sheraton now.

Actually, it's just the Wednesday and Thursday nights. All the other nights before and after are OK. Called the hotel, and they said they have a few conferences then. Oh well. I'll keep checking, otherwise , I'll use those Starpoints some other time...

Just had a couple of weeks stay at this property. Too bad they are leaving because the closest sheraton (I think) is in Novi outside Detroit.
I want to comment about the evening club lounge food selection. They offer the best soup around. Their chef churns out a new one every day. The salad is also very fresh. In fact, I did not eat out once for the period I was there (soup and salad every day). As I said, too bad they are leaving. I may need to drive an hour away for a *wood property. I need the points :)
RIP and sorry to see them go. I almost never got more than one night there, but Starwood is sorely lacking properties in outstate Michigan. Despite being far out from East Lansing, I almost always picked up at least one night here as the rates were good, the staff and facilities were nice, and it was a stay credit. No more. Back to Hilton, I'm afraid. 'Been nice, guys.

Yeah... right next to Hopcat, or at least in that area. And maybe one in Traverse City!
usually stayed here on 1 nighters for a few yrs
What I liked most was that the pool/hot tub was open all night long, most places close the pool area 10 or 11 pm, and no kids after 11pm
The indoor 1/2 basketball court was neat as well
