As a frequent trouble maker in Singapore, I usually stay at the Westin Stamford or the Westin Plaza. However, until they turned into the Swissotel and Raffles respectively, I havent tried them until a couple of days ago.

Firstly, the Swissotel Stamford. When I first entered into the room, I thought to myself, "What were they thinking?". The bed was hard (apparantly it is good for my back but I don't really care) and uncomfortable. The room seems to be permanently "dimmed" and not very well decorated. As far as I can remember, the Westin Stamford has far more superior rooms.

Next, the Raffles The Plaza. Great job with the re-decoration of the lobby. But again, what were they thinking. The bed was just as uncomfortable and the rooms were shabbily decorated. I still enjoyed the automatic "curtain-thingy" but man they are ugly.

I know this is not a very good trip report but I would like a second opinion on this issue. For FTs that have stayed in both the Westin and the Raffles products, do you feel the same way? or am I just TOO biased?

Yes! I feel the same way and greatly miss the old Westin Siamese Twins, as I used to call them.

Now, the original Raffles Hotel across the street...that's a different story and I like that property very much.

Swissotel/Raffles as a brand is a very mixed bag .
It is highly satisfactory in some markets and a design nightmare in others.
It has huge marketing difficulties in the US and the brand will probably loose more locations in the Domsetic US as it is clearly out of touch with the North American market.
All of the marketing is now handled out of Singapore.
They actually have an exceptional frequent stay program that only earns miles, suite upgrades and an exceptional free breakfast.
500 per miles per nite on Delta at any rate is one such gem.
Getting into their elite program is rocket science and no one has ever communicated what the secret is to be invited is.
Self included and I was invited.
Staying alot of course helps http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
