The other thread should be used for problems only to keep it clean. Use this thread to report hotels that treat platinums above and beyond what they are req. to do

I recently received a nice upgrade at the 4pts Rome, without any haggle. The best hotel I have ever stayed for consistant upgrade without a word at checkin in the Sheraton Bal Harbour though. Other hotels are hit and miss, though I'm comming to realize that the length of stay is often the factor the determines most at other good hotels. Ie. longer the stay, less chance of upgrade, cause so long as there is one night in the middle of your 5 night stay that they have no suites, you won't get one.

Bravo Bal Harbour though, #1 in my book.

Since getting to platinum in 11/02,

I've stayed at
the 4pts Sydney Late nov02 - Got a darling harbour suite. Not much to shout about but appreciated anyway. It was an award stay too.
Sheraton Towers Southbank Melbourne Jan 03 -Upgrade to a deluxe corner room with a view of the city. Not too bad
Sheraton Towers Southbank Melbourne Feb 03 -Got a nice suite for 6 out of 11 days. Had to ask.
Westin Chiangmai Feb 03 - Got a suite for 5 nights without asking
Sheraton Towers Southbank Melbourne March 30th to present time - Got a suite for 11 nights, and still enjoying it http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

The Sheraton Towers Southbank's one of my favourite hotels and they treat plats very very well there. Off to the W,Westin and 4pts sydney for legs 2,3 and 4 of my 5stay/50K quest this weekend.

While I already contributed to the non-upgrade thread, I also can report about wonderful experiences in 2003. All upgrades (to a suite) were done automatically and the amenity welcome gift was delivered without having to ask:
- Hotel Sheraton Belgravia London
- Sheraton Brussels Hotel and Towers
- Four Points by Sheraton Central Köln / Cologne
- ArabellaSheraton Westpark Hotel Munich

The nicest upgrade treatment I've ever received is at the Sheraton Biscane Bay in Miami. The rooms and facilities are about average but they went way above and beyond in how the treated me. I received the room upgrade and amenity and when I got to my room there was a huge chocolate chip cookie with my name on it. And, a letter from the GM welcoming me including his direct line in case I had any problems. Then, they called my room as soon as I walked in the door to welcome me. The cookie was darn good, too.

To make it even better, I was on a trip with two colleagues and they gave each of them the same treatment because I was a platinum (except for the welcome amenity, I think). There are some great Starwood hotels in South Florida but I would stay here again if I had business in Miami.

GUwonder,

I'll check in to the W on the 11th. They've pre-upgraded me to a Marina Loft Room. They don't seem to have suites or anything like that, so I'm not sure if this Marina Loft is any good or not. Any experience with this?

In 2003, I have received suite upgrades (without asking) at the following properties:

- Westin Maui (fantastic, huge suite; fruit basket; bottle of champagne)
- Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit (two visits; suites both times, fruit basket and peanuts, buffet breakfast provided was huge. Can't say enough good things about this hotel.)
- Royal Orchid Sheraton (nice suite, fruit basket, Thai dessert plate)
- Westin Grand Bohemian (nice suite, very nice property)
- Sheraton Safari Lake Buena Vista
- 4 Points Lakeland (Florida)

Excellent experience at all of the above hotels. I only wish there were more Starwoods to stay at so I could direct all of my business to them.

The St. Regis in NYC. but only 'cuz I asked. Nicely. But firmly.

The St. Regis in LA. But only 'cuz I asked. Nicely. But firmly. In an empty hotel.

The Pulitzer in Amsterdam. The Royal Suite. Your own elevator. Stoopwaffel cookies every day. Brekkie everyday. Brits who reeked of the demon weed (at brekkie, too)and wouldn't share. A steam launch called "The Tourist" available for sightseeing. For 9 days and nights.
Too bad we had a housekeeping problem the second to last day. Otherwise it'd have been perfect.

The Westin Sydney. For 11 nights. A gorgeous corner suite with the notorious "Hello Sydney" tub and a shower stall about as big as my kitchen. And a bedroom about the size of my house. Bigger TV's too. And a guest bathroom. For a bit more than US$100/nt. We were booked into the Observatory Hotel for the last five nights in town. We cancelled and stayed at the Westin. The Club Lounge and especially the Club Lounge staff were the best I've ever seen. Perfect stay in the perfect hotel in the pretty close to perfect town.

The Sheraton Brisbane. Towers Suite. Inclusive breakfast buffet the likes of which we've never seen before and won't likely again soon. Unless we go back to Brisbane. Which, even at what turned out to be about $75 US, would be a stretch. We were concerned, though, at the sight of the Dunkin Donuts University branch office just outside the airport. This bears further investigation. You have to stop these things before they spread.

The Westin Vancouver. Nice, if sorta smallish, top floor suite. Really cool hotel though and a super staff.

The Palace in San Francisco. For once without having to ask. Not the Warren G. Harding death suite, though. But the place was empty on the Fourth of July weekend. Huh? Closings forced us to go to Maxfields. I would eat there if I wasn't staying at the hotel.

No6,

Yes the marina loft was very nice. I enjoyed it immensely and will not hesitate to stay there again.

Incidentally, whilst on the upgrade success stories, when I moved back to the Sheraton Towers southbank melbourne on sunday, they upgraded me to a suite. The only difference was this was the first time the hotel had done it before I checked in - I checked my reservation on SPG.com. I guess when it rains it pours, because I've also been pre upgraded to a Darling Harbour suite for my upcoming leg 4 of the 5/50 promo at the 4pts sydney on Friday. I'm running a 7 out of 9 stay suite strike rate this year. God I love SPG....

Upgrade to a nice towers room (facing the city, as requested in advance) on a cheap weekend rate. Towers lounge access was a big plus- open on weekends, nice free breafast and happy hour. Small wine bottle (with wine) as amenity. A very nice stay.

Sheraton ABQ Uptown - pre-blocked to hosp. suite. I wish the staff of this prop. could be "cloned" to handle room assignments at other *woods. They consistently, without begging or pleading, recognize Plat. and offer a great stay experience to boot; i.e., heated indoor pool and Club lounge open on weekends, whenever business warrants!!!

Having stayed at the Sheraton Belgravia many times and being a great fan of the hotel, I am curious what you mean by a suite. I always get a medium size upgraded room with a sitting area and a couch that is exquisitely furnished. Is that what you mean by a suite or is it a two room suite?

Sheraton Warsaw - Upgraded to Smart Suite.....large room but nothing too special....Really had to beg for the upgrade.

Sheraton FRA Airport - Tired old room. Had a fax machine though. Didn't even get a room in the remodeled section. Asked at the front desk about a different room and she said there was a nicer one but she had to ask the manager. Came back and said sorry the hotel was full. I didn't feel like pressing the point as I had only about 7 hrs. to sleep before my flight. She did give me a breakfast voucher that was useless since my flight was so early.

I just got a nice suite (without asking) at the Sheraton Anaheim, right by Disneyland. The only problem is that they have no club lounge or breakfast - I was told that resort properties don't need to do that. I imagine that is true, but nothing I had ever heard.

4-18-03 1 night stay St. Regis Houston.

Preupgraded to jr. suite when I checked on SPG.com. The jr. suite turned out to be on the 3rd floor. I can hear the train and traffic from the street.

Would have preferred something quieter.

When checking, I noticed St. Regis suites available, but maybe that is a specialty suite.

Just stayed for three days at the Phoenician on a combination gift certificate/award stay that partially cut in to the Easter Weekend. We were upgraded without asking to a huge suite in the Canyon Building, received a fruit plate 2 out of 3 days and were given a 4 pm late checkout with no trouble at all. This was a fantastic stay - service here was incredible.

I just returned from the Belgravia London and was upgraded to a nice big two room suite. Fabulous experience -- now hands down my favorite Starwood property in London.

In answer to your question, the suite: Entry hallway turned right into a living room or left into the bedroom, both with doors. Bathroom was in the middle. The two rooms were roughly the same size. A friend of mine had a large corner room which sounds like the one you are describing. I think they called it an Executive Suite. I would say the suite I had was maybe 20% larger in total space, but it was nice to have a separate space for the living room.

While I'm at it, for this European swing, I had a perfect record in SPG Platinum suite upgrades. Thanks Starwood! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Century Plaza and Bonaventure-Always a suite upgrade without asking. They cannot do enough for me at the Century Plaza.

As for the Westin, LAX, they appear to know nothing about the SPG program. But the rooms are OK for a short overnite stay and it is a heavenly bed after all. Years ago I used to get a jacuzzi suite once in awaile. But its been years.

I'd say usually on personal travel I've been pretty lucky with upgrades in the past, but on business travel with around 70 nights this year I've been pretty unlucky in getting a suite. I don't consider a basic room on a concierge floor much of an upgrade, because everyone gets that pretty much all the time.

Thumbs up to the Westin Copley Place in Boston. I'm staying there for two nights this week on a SPG50 rate. Called the front desk today to request a pre-block into a suite. Scott at at the desk upgraded me to a suite on the 35th floor and even offered me a choice of views and room layouts. I stayed there two weeks ago and also got upgraded to a suite after calling the hotel from the airport on the morning of my arrival. 2 for 2 ^

I always book the cheapest room at the Westin Hotel, Manila directly with the hotel, unpublished "local resident" rate at $40 per night, standard room.

and have always been upgraded to a corner Executive Suite.

and have always gotten a fruit basket, unlimited mineral water supply, free breakfast, 500 Starwood bonus points and a full body massage at the spa.

all included with that $40 for being a starwood platinum member.

The first time I checked in there they only gave me 1 welcome present (i.e. either a bottle of rum, 500 bonus points or massage) but after several check-ins, they recognized me and gave me all sorts of bonuses.

They're the best.

What a fabulous property! Despite the fact that I was still a few nights away from platinum, they upgraded me to a gigantic suite with a huge balcony overlooking the lagoon. Las Vegas-style bathroom with a tub and TV overlooking the lagoon (with sliding door windows). An amazing spa, and a concierge who bent over backwards to put together a wonderful day-long custom tour for me. Bottle of wine and fruit basket with a hand-written personal greeting card waiting for me upon arrival. Amazingly friendly people and great value for money (at least if you earn in Euro's!).

Yeah, I got it the week before you did... its pretty sweet. This week I got a junior suite in the old side which is pretty nice. One of my colleagues got the Windsor Suite this week and we had an election night party there.

Although the Windsor Suite is bigger, I think the Shangri La has much nicer decoration.

Usually though, I just get a normal tower room at this hotel.

On a one night award stay last week I was upgraded to the Castle Suite (room 855) which every staff member I came into contact with told me was their nicest suite. The suite was great, but the highlight was definately the balcony which by my estimation was around 250 square feet overlooking the Red Sea.

Westin Phillipine Plaza: I stayed here with Mrs. ac777 for3 nights the first time and 1 night the second time. The hotel, although a bit out of the way, was great. Both times I got upgraded to corner suites and of course the lounge was available. The staff were quite friendly and although the food in the lounge was a bit sparse, I think they did a great job. I have no problems going back there and the rate I got was excellent. The Platinum amenity points posted promptly.
Westin Osaka Got U/G to a decent suite. The club lounge was great with extremely helpful staff. They helped me out by making some phone calls for me as I was having to get out of Japan in a hurry to avoid the typhoon!!

I went to Spain and Italy last month, and stayed at Alfonso XIII at Sevilla and Westin Excelsior at Florence.

Alfonso XIII
They gave us the corner 1 bedroom suite (almost 1200sq) with two complete bathrooms. They are not adjoining type suite and bigger living room with small bedroom plus luggage/changing room.
First day, they gave us a box which had sherry wine with alfonso wine glasses.
Second day, they gave us their original(?) olive oil.

We used SPG points for the stay.

Westin Excelsior
They gave us Junior suite with balcony.
It was not the huge suite everyone mentioned in this forum.
But it was still enough for us to enjoy the hotel.
When I stayed Grand last time(just cross the square), it was a huge suite.
I personally liked the Westin Grand.
By the way, When I stayed at Grand, one of the concierge helped me a lot.
Now, he moved to Excelsior to help me again.

Again, I used SPG points for the stay.

Booked for one night, last Monday. Requested early check-in (10am) because I wanted a nap after my redeye flight. Arrived and the front desk manager was pleased to advise me that they had pre-blocked the Presidential Suite. He wasn't joking - that was the sign on the room. (Now, before you get too excited, the Presidential Suite at this facility isn't anything like the one at the Westin Century Plaza - but the thought counts.)

Just got back from a stay at the Westin Madrid Palace. When I arrived around noon they said they could upgrade me to an executive suite (best room type at the hotel) but not until 4pm if I wanted to wait. I waited and it was a truly beautiful room. I checked it out online and it had a rate of 1200 Euros. It was really amazing. Considering this hotel has 5 levels of rooms I felt like I got the royal treatment with the upgrade to the the best room type. Great location too and the wine and 4pm late checkout also quite nice.

Yeah. Me too. But, personally, I don't think it ever will. That's just the nature of the beast. Most people are more ready to share the bad things that happen to them than are willing to share the good. :)

That being said, I think the reality of the situation is that we do a lot better than some people perceive. ;)

This is a late report, but had another "sweet" upgrade at the Westin Cincinnati. Only there 1 night, was put in the "Fountain Square" suite. If memory servies it was the combination of 7 rooms (1 standard bedroom, the living room was 6 "normal" rooms with the walls knocked out).

I really like this downtown Cincy property.

Initially upgraded to a deluxe suite for a 1 night stay but someone else was already inside the room when I tried to open the door. Oops !! Glad I didn't see anything I wasn't supposed to see. :)

Went back to front desk, due to the mix up, she upgraded me to the Grandview Deluxe Suite on the 30 floor with private balcony. Amazing suite with huge bathroom, living room, bedroom with views the north shore mountains and water and to the east. Liked it so much that I extended my stay for one more night.

No complimentary breakfast or club lounge, internet and phone calls for a fee even for Platinum. Healthclub was free.

Upgraded to the Peachtree Suite. Large split-level suite with half bath, wet bar, dining area, large sectional sofa and "large-screen" TV downstairs and open loft with bedroom and bath upstairs. Furnishings were a little tired, but lots of room and the large-screen TV was great for Monday night football. :)

Wonderful place, upgraded to a suite almost every time I stayed there after becoming a Plat. The only time I wasn't upgraded to suite was because they ran out of non-smoking suites, and I opted for a room on the club floor rather than a smoking suite.

On the other side of Century Blvd, just down a mile, the Westin LAX never offered a suite upgrade, never mentioned to me that they tried but could not find a suite. What a stark difference.

No suite upgrade this time, but in the past I have scored quite well. A major conference took all the suites. But my big problem with this hotel is how hot the rooms are. It was so hot I could barely survive in it. They really need to do something about this as no one can live in this heat. It is just too comfortable and no number of *W points are going to fix that. At least this Sheraton has windows which open, whereas the Hilton across the street is just as hot and without windows which open.

Stephen Darling the GM of The Westin Grand Vancouver is one of the best General Managers of Starwood Hotels worldwide.
I will assume he is still in command at the helm. We were lucky to get an interview with him years ago with one of the business travel publications.
He is one of the many reasons that Starwood still remains a great hotel company. Inspired leadership.
He and his team over the years have done a brilliant job. There is no doubt that they are all still leading the way.
It is good to hear the positive reports.
They need to clone this guy :) ^ :-: :-: :-: :-:

Recently stayed 4 times at 3 different properties in Italy - all on points - and was given fantastic rooms all 4 times.

Westin in Rome went so far as to provide a two bathroom - 900 square foot suite for 5 nights....

Westin Europa and Regina in Venice provided a penthouse suite with private balcony looking over the Grand Canal

Grand Hotel Florence provided a lovely suite with 10 foot tall fresgos in the room looking out over the Arno.

Had several stays (almost 3 weeks worth) at the Sheraton Suites in the Santa Fe district of Mexico City (the most expensive part of town, and it feels more like CA, FL or TX instead of Mexico).

Being that this is an all-suite hotel, I wasn't sure what they could do to upgrade me as a Platinum. Imagine my surprise when they upgrade me a a Master Suite, which is more or less a gigantic apartment.

I got upgraded each and everytime, without even having to ask for it :D ^

Received the mother of all upgrades: from Beachside to Over Water Bungalow for five nights. Until this trip I had not had much luck and was somewhat unimpressed with my Plat benefits (other than the bonus points) but this really was surprising considering the occupancy level at the resort and the price differential. Thank you BBN staff!

Having stayed at the Sheraton Belgravia many times and being a great fan of the hotel, I am curious what you mean by a suite. I always get a medium size upgraded room with a sitting area and a couch that is exquisitely furnished. Is that what you mean by a suite or is it a two room suite?

I just spent 3 nights at the Belgravia and was upgraded into a similar room (although by London standards I'd say it was rather large, not "medium size") but very nicely furnished and was told it was a "studio suite." I was very pleased with it as my reservation still reflected my Gold status (this was my first PLT stay) and at check-in they were able to quickly verify my status and immediately offered me the upgrade & PLT amenity. I was told I could have an "Executive Room" right away, or if I could wait an hour then I could have the "studio suite" (she strongly suggested that I wait ;) ).

I thought I would kickstart this thread instead of posting this as a trip report since I enjoy hearing about other successes in one spot rather than hunting for them and I was very pleased with my recent stay in Rome and thought I would share.

Lobby and Check-In

A few weeks back I had the opportunity to stay at the Westin Excelsior Rome for two nights and the St. Regis Grand Hotel for a night and I used a 12K award stay for the first night and two of the free 'any category' awards from the 10/2 promotion. I arrived on a Friday night in the midst of a Sony Dealer's convention so I wasn't expecting a huge upgrade although I was hoping for one. I guess I should mention that I am a newly minted plat as of 12/31/2004 and this was my first experience as a platinum. As I checked in, I thought it was odd that they didn't ask for a credit card to swipe, I guess they figured the one on file was sufficient. The lobby was large and spacious and very elegant.

The front desk staff member who checked me in also showed me to the room which she indicated was both an upgrade and newly renovated. She also, during check in asked me to fill out the Platinum amenity card which had the option of a bowl of fruit, a wine from the wines of the world collection, a free movie or a local gift. I opted for a bottle of Cabernet Savignon. The room (#328, 329 was indicated on the folio) was absolutely fantastic and immediately upon entering you were swathed in red walls and gold glitz which was used as ornamentation throughout the suite. It appeared to be about 1100 square feet or so if I had to guess but the 15 ft. high ceilings may have given the perception of a much larger room.

Bathroom:

The bathroom was immediately in front of you and had marble floors (later found out these were heated) a seperate shower and tub (with a heavenly twin shower head of course), marble walls, a heated towel rack, a bidet and a window that opened out onto a nice street view. There was also a switch that I believe controlled an awning outside the window but I couldn't figure out how to make it work. There was also one plug in the bathroom that had a switchable 110/220 voltage input. The bathroom was a decent size and had two sink basins with a good size marble countertop for toiletries.

Hallway:

Immediately to the right upon entering was a long hallway with three mirrored closets the first containing a closet and a safe, the second a closet and the third a closet and drawer area. On the left at the end of the hall was a doorway to the rather large bedroom and directly in front was a very large living room.

Living Room

The living room was fairly large in size and I immediately noticed that this was a corner suite with large heavy drapes opened up to city and street views in two directions but because this was the third floor you couldnt see that far into the city, luckily it was a gorgeous weekend with terrific weather. There was a Bang and Olafson TV situated to the left with a minibar beneath it next to a wooden desk, a fireplace in the corner with a large mirror over it going all the way up to the ceiling, a cozy living room ensemble to the right (sofa, chair and coffee table), a dramatic chandelier hanging in the center with enough room underneath it to accomodate four or five couples mingling, this would have made a great party room, too bad I didn't know many people in Rome. ;) There was also an assortment of buttons that turned on and off a variety of lighting combinations. The entire room was swathed in red fabric with gold leaf crown molding throughout the room. It was also very ornate in furnishings with gold accents in lighting sconces and wainscotting.

Bedroom

From the living room facing back the way I came in I could go back down the hallway toward the bathroom or directly into the bedroom which was seperated by a large opening that looked like a large 4-door opening but without the doors. The one draw back to this room which I felt rather odd was the two twin beds pushed together to serve as a king bed and then made up with king bedding so the illusion is one big bed, only the headboards give it away but are not noticable immediately. This room was also very red and was a decent size with sufficient walk around room on all sides of the bed. There was also a window here with heavy drapes and a lamp over bedside tables on either side of the bed with the lamp on the left having a dimmer switch. the focal point of this room wasn't apparent at first unless you notice an odd remote control hanging from a hook to the right side of the bed. Upon pushing the button, a television rises from a large wooden chest at the foot of the bed which as a guy, I find pretty cool loving gadgets of all sorts and this is by far the coolest gizmo I have seen in a hotel room, even though I did not turn the TV on, I made it go up and down several times. ;)

Location

The hotel is fairly conveniently located with several dining options about and is about a block away from the Hard Rock Cafe for those of you who collect T-shirts from your travels (as I do). It is also about a 8-10 minute walk from the Trevi Fountain which was a really nice sight and is smack in the middle of a lot of shopping and stores although I got the feeling that better deals were to be had elswhere and away from the touristy location of these shops.

Overall Impression

I was very impressed with my stay considering the entire stay was based on awards and during what appeared to be a large conference. I will definately be back and hopefully get the same room or better, I just wish they would have king beds in rooms like this, this wasnt exactly a business room and more like a leisurely stay type of room. I will post on the St. Regis Grand Hotel next.

As a continuation of my previous post, my third night was at The St. Regis Grand Hotel 'just because', even though I was more than happy at the Westin Excelsior, I wanted to try both, to say I've been at both properties and give an objective opinion when asked about preferences. I used a 10/2 cat 6 free night promotion for my stay here and while lovely and upgraded and given excellent service by the concierge, I enjoyed the stay at the Excelsior slightly better due to the room upgrade to a suite.

Lobby and Check-In

Walking into the St. Regis, you immediately feel that you are in a very classy hotel, from the cars at valet to the attire of the clientele, it does feel a bit more upscale than the Excelsior. The check-in process was very easy and as a platinum, I was upgraded to a junior suite on the 8th floor (#808). I was asked for my choice of platinum amenity and from the standard European card, this time I selected a bowl of fruit. The front desk staff member introduced me to another staffer who showed me to my room. Within 5 minutes my fruit bowl arrived and 20 minutes later a different staffer showed up with another fruit bowl but I explained I already had one.

Entryway

Upon entrance, I stepped into the living room which had high ceilings, a window directly in front and a door to the bathroom to the right.

Living Room

The decor was newer than the Excelsior it appeared although the color scheme wasn't to my taste. The room was more muted in tones and had distinct crown molding throughout rather than the gold leaf ornate of the Excelsior. There was a TV in an armoir a desk to the right and a couch, chair and coffee table to the left. The size of this room was roughly half of the size of the living room at the Excelsior. Walking further into the room you saw the bedroom to the right.

Bedroom

The bedroom was a decent size and had an alcove over the headboard area of the bed with indirect and halogen lighting on separate switches to create different ambience tones. There was also another entrance to the bathroom next to a second desk and there was a small closet area next to the bed. This was an actual king bed and was very comfortable, quite 'heavenly'. There was also a Bang and Olafson TV with a very good picture although I always find myself watching the SPG channel (to see where I want to stay next perhaps). there wasn't much of a pay TV selection however.

Bathroom

The bathroom here was all marble with a separate shower (dual shower heads) and tub and was longer rather than wider, it also included a bidet but I found it unusual that for a room this size, there was only 1 wash basin across from an empty area (to place bags perhaps) that would have served perfectly as a second wash basin. The countertop area was also rather small and I feel that a stay longer than my 1 night here would have been a bit cramped especially with more than one person in the room. The bath toiletries were definately an upgrade with shampoo, conditioner, bath gel and body lotion by Aqua di Parma.

Overall Impression

I definately will give the St. Regis high marks for their recognition of platinum status, platinum amenity, nice room upgrade and great service by the concierge for dining suggestions and business assistance although Internet was down throughout the hotel during my stay here and I had to walk about 10 minutes to an Internet cafe. There was also a great restaurant nearby called 'Target' (walking distance) that was a lively atmosphere as well as great food. Breakfast buffet was actually very reasonably priced and an excellent assortment. I would call my total Rome adventure a complete 'Platinum Success' even though it was my very first trip as a platinum, so I hope this continues...so far so good. :)

Had two great stays at the Sheraton Four Points Darling Harbour Sydney recently. First stay: paid (one night) and points (one night), upgraded to a Cockle Bay suite. Great view of Darling Harbour. Second stay: points (one night), upgraded to a City view suite.

The staff at this hotel was terrific, plat amenities offered, concierge desk was very helpful. I highly recommend this place and the location's great too.

I'll be back with the family in March so I'll get to check it out as a Gold too :(

Well I just stayed for 3 nights at the WDW Swan Hotel in Orlando.

Didn't get a suite, but a nice upgrade to a executive floor, nice king size room with a good view and no problem with the access to the lounge, also got my welcome amenity ( 500 points) which have also already been posted.

But I had to ask for everything. Also had no problem of securing a late check out even the hotel was totally full and they had quite some problems. Overall pretty satisfying.

Spent the long Easter weekend (four day break in the UK) in Germany. This was a family holdiay (at 32, it's been a while since I've had one of those), but my parents were visiting from Aus. Both I and my borther are platinum, so we booked two rooms at each hotel in our names, and gave our parents one:

Westin Grand Dresden

Fantastic hotel overlooking the river and the old town (although it's not really that old, but has been rebuilt since WWII).

Room 1

Upgraded to a huge suite with two bathrooms and separate study. Platinum amenity offered.

Room 2

Apologised *profusely* that there were no more suites available. Upgraded to a river view deluxe room. Platinum amenity offered.

Westin Grand Berlin

Nice hotel with great service. Both these rooms were on a €112 rate !

Room 1

Upgraded to a junior suite on the fourth floor overlooking the internal garden. Platinum amenity offered. Butler service available.

Room 2

Upgraded to a large corner suite overlooking the internal garden. This was one of their top named suites, included two plasma screens (one in bedroom, one in lounge). Butler service available.

Sheraton Bloomington (MSP) - Stayed here a few times, only one suite upgrade and that was after I was given keys to a room that had a room service tray in front of the door. I didn't enter (didn't know what I'd find) so they upgraded me to a "Cabana Suite". They overlook the pool (indoor) and have either a veranda or a jacuzzi in the room. No high speed internet in these rooms.

W City Center (Chicago) - Had a great stay. Was upgraded to a suite but it wasn't ready when I checked in. They finished "styling" (cleaning) the room and the whole process took 20 minutes. The room was OK...seperate living room...the usual W style.

St. Regis Aspen - By now we all know the St. Regis Aspen has stripped away any and all Plat benefits. I did receive a nice room on the 5th floor (4th is the Alpine floor). Nice view of Ajax but no balcony. I did enjoy the "shuttle service".

1) Upgraded at the W Hotel Chicago Lakeshore Dr., did not have to ask. This was my first time ever staying there. The next two times I stayed I did not get an upgrade. Same happened to a coworker. We have come to the conclusion that at this hotel they upgrade first timers who have Platinum status to get you to stay there again, then no upgrade after that .

2) Upgraded at the Westin Chicago Michigan Ave, did not have to ask. This is my second time there as a Platinum member. Staying there right now actually :p. My first time I was not upgraded. Opposite of the W now that I think about it.

Our upgrade success stories:
Palace San Francisco - upgraded to a beautiful two room suite 5 out of 6 times.
Westin Maui - upgraded to 2 bedroom/2 bath presidential suite, huge living room, grand piano! and complimentary access to concierge floor for 2 of our kids. Unbelievable.
St.Regis Grand Rome - two room suite.
Grand Florence - large junior suite with a view of Arno.
Prince de Galles - champage suite with view of Eiffel Tower, only once however out of 5 stays.
Park Lane Sheraton - two room suite upgrade with view of Green Park 5 out of 6 times and a junior suite the other stay.
St. Francis San Francisco - two room suite.
Westin South Coast Plaza - two room suite with two bathrooms, last 3 visits.
Century Plaza - Huge suite with bedroom, 2 baths, huge living room and dining room and amazing city views of Los Angeles (we could actually see them).
Westin Bonaventure - large suite.
Sheraton Music City - large corner suite once out of two visits.
Westin Long Beach - deluxe room with view of Queen Mary.
Sheraton Anaheim - two room suite.

Platinum Amenity not a problem 95% of the time.

Overall, we will continue to maintain our Platinum status. We feel it is worth the extra effort to frequent Starwood properties.

Continuing off-topic, but maybe you can get it back on after your stay. Unless the room is in your name and you're paying for the room, there is no upgrade entitled to the business preferred member because of your platinum status, but YMMV.

Not even a Platinum, but I was upgraded to the Presidential "WOW" Suite at the W San Diego. After stepping foot in the room, there is no doubt why it is called the "WOW" suite. Definitely the coolest hotel room I've ever stayed in. My business travel companion is a big Marriott guy and said after seeing my suite he will be Starwood from now on!

The Sheraton Lax has one of the most consistent track record for Platinum elite upgrades and one of the most compliant I have ever seen at Starwood systemwide.
They usually include complimentary breakfast.
If your platinum number is on there I think you will do fine.
You might call the hotel reservation manager if their is some confusion as to if they can access your acct info and name on the reservation.
Sadly though they have removed all music systems and mini bars from all rooms and suites.I now go to the Westin or others when in the area.

The Sheraton Gateway LAX had a good record several months ago, but this Plat. who does 12-15 stays/yr. there has run into a period of having to plead and beg for what used to be offered affirmatively: the corner suite u/g. I think that there has been the inevitable turnover in staff who do room assignments and that may be the reason for the current "dry spell" Coincidentally, I always receive an email from the property several days before my stay offering me the chance to "buy" my way to a suite for $50/night.

Have had two consecutive pre-blocked suite u/gs on free weekend stays at the Westin Santa Clara -- previously a hard one to crack because of the small # of qualifying suites available. So it's evened out.

Complimentary breakfast at Sheraton LAX? Is this a Platinum benefit? I received a suite upgrade and lounge access, but there is no breakfast served at the lounge on weekends. :(

Complimentary full breakfast (buffet) at Brasserie has not been a Platinum amenity at the LAX Sheraton Gateway. Platinums are entitled to lounge privileges but, the lounge may be closed on weekends if low occupancy. In that case, it's at the hotel's discretion to offer bkfst in the Brasserie which has happened. Also, there are sometimes promotional weekend or weekday rates which include it -- but not merely on a/c of Platinum status. That said, Brasseerie offers a great breakfast with plenty of fresh fruit and a variety of other items.

Sheraton Buenos Aires : UG to a corner suite on Exec Floor. Beautiful room

Not many suites at this property, so I only get a suite about 10-20% of the time. The usual upgrade is to club level with one of the best club lounges that I have had the opportunity to avail. On my stay last week, however I was given an envelope on check-in which contained a "thank-you" gift which was a $25 gift certificate for Lenox Mall accross the street. Very unexpected and a very nice gesture. :)

Hotel Bristol, Vienna: 1 night, cheap rate from SPG.com. UG'd to beautiful mini-suite with balcony. Also granted a 3PM checkout.

Westin Excelsior Rome: 7 night award stay. UG'd to a luxury room, HUGE, with a fantastic view. In addition to standard amenity offered, received a welcome bottle of wine and a boxed collectors book on rome from the GM. Late checkout not needed, and not requested.

Westin Excelsior Florence. 1 night award stay. UG'd to penthouse room with a big patio and King bed. Granted a 3PM checkout.

It took a bit of cajoling on my part, but got a very nice 1BR suite on the 9th floor (Club Floor) for a weekend stay at the Sheraton Russell in NYC last weekend.

I asked if there were any platinum suite upgrades available when checking in, the clerk immediately said they were "sold out". I said "really? That's too bad" and mentioned that I heard the hotel really took care of Plats. She asked how long were were staying, I said "only 2 nights", and the suite appeared.

Great on the clerk for producing the room, not so great that I basically had to push her into it.

The Russell is an older hotel, in an excellent location at 37th and Park. ^

I booked a room for my parent's 40th anniversery at the St Regis NYC using an SPG50 certificate. I called one day prior to their arrival to set up payment for the room and I told the desk attendant about the anniversary. The following evening, my parents were upgraded to a large suite with two bathrooms, fresh roses, champagne, chocolates, etc.

I will be sending the St Regis a letter thanking them for the great treatment and will specifically mention Michael Y., who was great on the phone and went out of his way to ensure that my parent's stay was first class.

I just returned from a 4 night stay at the Prince de Galles in Paris. I had booked a deluxe room using points for 50% of the rack rate. The night before, I printed up my confirmation from SPG.com and saw they had upgraded me already to a deluxe suite. When I arrived, the front desk clerk was very friendly. He told me I had been upgraded. However, the room wasn't ready and after a few minutes of huddling with another front desk person, I was informed that I had been upgraded even further, from a Champagne Suite to a Corner Suite. I enjoyed a very lovely suite which consisted of a large entry with double doors leading to the living room. There was a decorative fireplace in this room. A bathroom with shower and a separate dressing room with a large closet off the entryway. The bedroom had another large closet and connected to a lovely marble bathroom with seperate shower and bathtub. Bathroom had wonderful Hermes bath amenities. The suite overlooked Avenue George V. Needless to say, it was a wonderful stay. Offered an amenity upon check-in. Chose the wine. Thank you Prince de Galles and thank you SPG Platinum.

Checked in last night to the W Hotel New Orleans rather late around 11:30. Front desk already had my W Suite assigned to me and a welcome letter and my room keys prepared for an expidited check in. Very friendly front desk staff as opposed to the rudeness I've experience at the W San Francisco.

Suite is a very nice 2 room suite with a combo living room/dining room to the left of the entry foyer and the bedroom to the right. There are two bathrooms, one for guests and the bedroom bath. Wonderful views of the casino and river.

I'm here for 6 nights on a 4 paid 2 night free promo so I'm actually surprised that I got this room because in my past experience, on longer stays the probability of an upgrade diminishes. The front desk guy did mention that they had 250 checkouts that day however so I'm sure that helped. :)

Hotel Goldener Hirsch - Salzburg, small hotel with 50 rooms, upgraded from standard room to a beautiful one bedroom suite, marvelous, platinum amenity was a small bag of "Mozartkugel"( chocolate), besides Preferred Guest members get half a bottle of Austrian red wine.

Hotel Bristol - Vienna, hotel opposite the Opera in the best location. Booked standard room, got upgrade to a opera suite with balcony and view to the Opera, the Suite was huge and equipped with tons of electronical equipment. Rack rate for this suite was US$.2500. Arabella Sheraton Grand, Munich, Sat 9 July, one night. Booked the cheapest room online @ 114EU, got a club/tower room that while not a suite was quite posh. I asked for a bottle of wine as my amenity but it never arrived. Since I was starting to feel a little sick during the train ride there, I didn't really care about it and never mentioned it at checkout. I think whatever it is came from some dodgy bar food the night before. Anyway I did not ask for a suite and didn't really care if I had one or not as my plans were to have fun in Munich and not sit around a hotel room, Norwalk virus (or whatever) or not :)

Indeed, I had forgotten that the Sheraton Belgravia is the only London hotel, who was pleased to see me as a plat and had preblocked a suite for me.

Sheraton Park Lane also always preblocks a suite for me when I stay there. In fact when I had to amend a booking and check in a day earlier (and called that day) they apologised that they wouldn't be able to give me a suite.

However by the time I checked in they had found a suite for me.

Both the Sheraton on the Falls and Sheraton Fallsview have been very good to me. At the Sheraton on the Falls, I am two for two stays - both times to a beautiful fallsview suite. My first stay was off-season, and they upgraded a $69 city view room to a 800 square foot corner suite with jacuzzi, fireplace and direct view on the falls. My second stay was a reward booking during high season, and I received a bi-level, 1140 square foot suite with two fireplaces, two baths and a view of the falls. Obviously, I was very pleased with both stays.

At the Sheraton Fallsview, I am running three for three stays. Two paid stays at approximately $80 each during shoulder season were upgraded to residential / executive Fallsview suites (beautiful kitchen, jacuzzi and glass shower, large windows overlooking the falls, approximately 750 square feet). One reward stay during high season was also upgraded to the same caliber of suite.

Needless to say, both properties come highly recommended for Plat members.

As I predicted early on this hotel is coming back with a new found revitalized energy and commitment. The W SF had a management change this year.
Other reports in other SPG threads are also highly positive with service as well

In all my years past staying at the W San Francisco as a Platinum on revenue or not I have never seen what the inside of a suite here looks like let alone have the opportunity to stay in one. Many a high floor corner room though.
Which are very nice guest rooms.

I will be coming back again as the news continues to be overwhelmingly positive at the W San Francisco.
I look forward to what seems like a more consistent and dependable experience we can all rely on as SPG guests
Cheers

I am fortunate in that I get upgraded to suites often ... definitely keeps me a *wood Plat.
Florence .. both the Excelsior and the Grand upgraded me to awesome suites.
Venice .. the E & R upgraded me to a huge two bedroom suite with a canal view.
NYC .. the St Regis and the Sheraton Hotel & Towers upgraded me to 2 bedroom suite.
Chicago ... the Westin River North and the Westin O'Hare have always upgraded me to suites (I've stayed at both often). The one time that I stayed at the Sheraton Hotel & Towers, I was upgraded to a 2 bedroom suite.
Many other upgrades too numerous to mention. (Along with some pretty crappy rooms).

not bad. however, i am differentiating between a suite upgrade and an upgrade to a better room than booked. maybe i am off-base.

until the suite upgrade listed above, i was batting a solid 0% in my minnesota stays this year, which is the bulk of my close to 30 all-in stays in 2005.

i am 0% at both the sheraton bloomington and sheraton in minnetonka in terms of suite upgrades (probably about 15 stays combined in 2005). i am now 33% at the 4 points on industrial blvd (1 out of 3).

Recently got THE PENTHOUSE of the Atlantic in Ft Lauderdale. I had contacted the hotel a week before my arrival and spoke to the front desk AND the concierge to let them know I was coming with my friends to celebrate a milestone occasion (i.e., a 30th b-day and a promotion). To my pleasant surprise, I was given the penthouse with 2 rooms, a HUGE private terrace, 2 full baths w/ jacuzzi, a full kitchen and a 6 person dining table and a spare "office" which could've been easily turned into another bedroom.

We also received complimentary bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries.

Needless to say, they went above and beyond my expectations and my friends and I have vowed to make The Atlantic our annual 4th of July trip!

got my second upgrade to a "suite" in 30-35 stays this year (including award stays). i put suite in quotes becuase the kiosk at the sheraton boston said i was assigned an "execuite suite." i've stayed at this property before and i think they have a loose definition of the term suite. ;)

i think an accomodation has to have a seperate non-bedroom room to be considered a suite. the room i got at the sheraton boston is a room no larger than a basic room at any other property (except NYC maybe) with a small kitchenette (sink (which dripped all night) and mini-fridge). does the small kitchenette make my room an executive suite? who knows.

i do LOVE the sheraton kiosk, however.

The Sheraton at Providence Airport has the same definition of a suite. It is basically a slightly oversized room with a sink. I agree that a suite should have two separate rooms. A junior suite can be one room, but should have a couch as opposed to two chairs to properly qualify.

Nevertheless, I almost always get upgraded to one of these "suites" at Providence. They put a post it note in my room key folder that says "you've been upgraded". They also bring me a third bottle of water with a welcome kit that includes chocolates, granola bars, peanuts, cheese, etc. Nice touch since I also get the points as my plat amenity.

My best upgrade was last summer at the St Francis in San Fran. The Bayview Suite. What an amazing view. Even had motorized drapes and full stereo system.

I have about 60 SPG nights this year, and got my first upgrade last week, but it was a good one. I was staying at the Tuscany for one night, and they gave me beautiful suite with a living room that had a 40"+ plasma TV on the wall, great sound system, etc... I don't expect upgrades because I normally travel to NY or Chicago and the pickings are slim, but I really do appreciate it when I do get one.

Upgrades for last 2 hotel stays:

Park Lane Sheraton in London - Booked an executive room and was upgraded to the Lord Peter Wimsey Suite.

St. Regis Club at the Essex House in New York - booked a deluxe king using 1000 points for SPG50 rate ($309) and was upgraded to an Astor Suite.

Didn't have to ask for either upgrade. I was pre-blocked before check-in.

Upgraded to tremendous three room suite (or two rooms with large foyer). Have rarely been upgraded to a suite at a W - usually just a corner room. Included large Bose Wave music system, Sirius satellite radio, great seating area in living room with two couches and two chairs, and extra large jacuzzi tub (also an awesome and thick bath sheet/towel). Room 2509. I highly recommend it.

Since I complained about the Sheraton Delfina misrepresenting suite availability earlier this trip, I want to commend the W Westwood for the upgrade I received, to a Cyber Suite (very large--living rm/office/bedroom) and the warm treatment at check-in -- even though it was rather hectic on Labor Day. Not the most convenient location for me, but wanted to check-out the property. Recommend avoiding the $4 coffee to go in the restaurant, though.

Sheraton Park Lane Hotel performs again.

Checked in and my allocated upgrade suite wasn't yet ready. Check-in staff found another two room suite with balcony and views over St James's Park.

At check in even made a point of saying 'this time we have a suite for you Mr Johnosan'. I gather they keep track of your stays as last time they were full thanks to the BA mess a few weeks back and I didn't get upgraded.

After suffering through a sweltering 30 hour blackout with no A/C complements of Hurricane Rita last Sunday (when the temp soared close to 100), when we lost power at home on Tuesday evening again, I was detremined not to stay put. I called around to the local Starwood hotels at 9:00 PM to try to find a room. The Four Points and Sheratons were all sold out (we still have a lot of Rita Evacuees in town). I called the Westin. They had rooms but the best rate was $277 for the night. They asked for my SPG number and when they found I was a platinum responded "let me see if there is anything better I can do". They found me an SPG 50 rate of $155 plus 1,000 points. Upon checking in (less than an hour later) they upgraded my partner and I to their Regency Suite. A HUGE suite with a large bedroom, 2 bathrooms, large office and large dinning/living room. This top floor suite had extra high ceillings, floor to ceiling windows and great views. I was really pleased both with their help and with the upgrade. It was just a pity I had to be out early the next morning to get to work!

Have now stayed at Sheraton Barra- Rio De Janiero

If you have business in the Barra area, or are bringing your children stay at this hotel. Relatively new, but really nice, hotel experience is one that leaves you feeling "user friendly". Plat up grade to Jr suite overlooking ocean, tv in 2 of the rooms. No club floor, hit and miss whats included in the way of food. Staff sent fruit and wine which was unexpected. Really found the hotel to be very comfortable. Note also that the hotel is a self contained site- no nearby resturants etc. But white sand beach across the street!!!

Not the place to stay if you have business in downtown Rio. Morning traffic can be about 35minutes to one hour to get downtown from there.

have also stayed at Sheraton Rio-

Not the best hotel in the chain, but one of the most consistent upgrades!

For the 5th straight time, I have been upgraded to the bi-level suite, which in an otherwise old hotel doesn't appear to be as worn as the other rooms.

Since it's a nice $89 corporate rate, it doesn't hurt to have all that space... now if I can just figure out what to do with the other restroom.. :)

btw - spoke to the Manager on check in and she confirmed that they are about to undertake a $10M upgrade... should be nice when it is finished!

Full summary of my 2004 and 2005 stays. With upgrade successes and some opinions. Upgrade to suite unless otherwise noted. (For those who don't want to read all the way through, my stays were in Atlanta, Arizona, Las Vegas, Bahamas, NYC, Hawaii, Salt Lake City, Aspen, ABQ, DFW, and Syracuse.)

My suite upgrades in 2004:
Sheraton Wild Horse Pass, Arizona (5 for 8. Always a nice stay. Fruit bowl, special drink, and personalized welcome letter, too. Always a western facing room that provides a sunset view. Every room has a balcony. The restaurant (and room service) here serves a great steak. Very nice staff.)

Westin Kierland Resort & Spa (1 for 2. Nice club lounge. Very nice hotel.)

Westin Kierland Villas (1 for 3. Every room is a great suite with full kitchen, but once got the larger suite rather than the lockoff suite. Both are great. Only once got access to the great Club Lounge in the resort, though.)

Westin Atlanta North (0 for 1. Nice fitness center access (free for Plats).)

Sheraton City Centre Hotel, Salt Lake City (0 for 1. Small rooms.)

Sheraton Suites Galleria, Atlanta (X for 11. All suite property. No club lounge. Could sometimes get jacuzzi suite, if desired, but they weren't great jacuzzis. Higher floors were "Club Level" but only added bath gel, robes, and water, if I recall correctly.)

Sheraton Syracuse University (0 for 1)
Westin Buckhead (1 for 1. Not a suite, but an extra large corner room with great view. Great club lounge. Expensive parking.)

Sheraton Old Town, ABQ (1 for 1.)

Westin Atlanta Airport (0 for 1. Don't recall a suite, but I recall some sort of good upgrade.)

Sheraton Phoenix Airport (0 for 1. Upgraded to club level.)

Sheraton at Our Lucaya, Grand Bahama Island (0 for 1. Was on a $79 Priceline stay, though. I think that this should be a Category 3 property rather than Cat 4.)

Westin at Our Lucaya, Grand Bahama Island (1 for 1. Oceanfront lanai suites -- our favorite and where we'll stay for our wedding.)

Sheraton Grand Hotel DFW Airport (0 for 1)

Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers (0 for 1)

My suite upgrades in 2005:

Aladdin, Las Vegas (15 for 15. Strip view suite every time.)

Westin Casuarina Las Vegas (0 for 2. No club lounge. Only 10 suites out of 826 rooms.)

St Regis Aspen (0 for 1. Very nice stay in peak season.)

W Atlanta (1 for 1. But had some housekeeping and accounting problems.)

Westin at Our Lucaya, Grand Bahama Island (2 for 2. Once in an oceanview tower suite. Once in oceanfront lanai suites -- our favorite and where we'll stay for our wedding.)

Sheraton Keauhou Bay, Hawaii (1 for 1. Upgraded to oceanview. All suites were still being renovated at time of stay.)

Sheraton Wild Horse Pass, Arizona (1 for 1. Always a nice stay. Fruit bowl, special drink, and personalized welcome letter, too.)

Sheraton Atlanta (1 for 1. Large corner suite with big screen TV.)

Sheraton Edinburgh, Scotland -- upgraded to the Elgin Suite on an award stay (had to wait a few hours for the room to be ready, but not really surprising, since I arrived early in the morning from the USA). This was a very nice 1-bedroom suite. The living room had a dinner table, small desk, sitting area, TV and a radio/CD player. The bedroom contained the bed and another TV. Nothing really super-special about it, other than my first time staying in a room with its own name. :) I believe they have 2 "named" suites per floor.

Sheraton Boston -- I stay here almost weekly; I am frequently put up in very nice suites, ranging from rooms I would call "Jr. Suites" to full 1-bedroom suites.

Recent stay at this hotel as Gold (25th stay).

Room on club floor in corner away from elevator, my regular preference. 2nd night into the stay, toilet overflows, and floods bathroom. Need another room, am promptly moved to a room across the hall. All of this occurs at 1:30am. Front desk staff let me know the hotel was up to capacity, moved someone who had just checked in to another *wood down the street.

Next week's stay as new Plat.

Upgraded to best available, 2 room suite, full sitting area with bar, about the size of two standard rooms. Call front desk to let them know sitting room has strong cigarette smoke. (Suite was supposed to be non-smoking). Promptly moved to a spa suite.

500 point amenity posted as well.

Five night award stay at the Park Tower. Apologized for not being able to get me a suite, then promptly upgraded me to the butler floor :-) Also, full english breakfast comped daily in 101. Also, morning coffee and afternoon tea with biscuits arrive at the room 5 minutes after requesting them.

Great comfortable rooms . . a bit small but space is used very wisely. Great location in Knightsbridge. I found the staff to be exceedingly cheery and helpful.

This could quite possibly be the best use of points ever. A great hotel experience, and the type that will keep me trying to achieve platinum status on a regular basis.

About the most consistent upgrade I get is the Westin Bonaventure in LA. Always a Tower Suite, except: a) once, about a year ago, when I got a regular room because they were actually sold out; b) last week when I got the "Redondo Suite" which is a double sized Tower Suite.

Further, this hotel almost always pre-blocks the suite. You can see it online a day before check-in.

Upgraded to a "junior suite" on a 7 night stay. This was on the 18th floor (1801/03) so not on the Tower levels, but I did have access to the lounge. Room was 2 regular connecting rooms with the bed removed from one of them, and a sofa in it's place. Not quite luxury, but the extra space was appreciated.

Last week:

At Sheraton Suites Orlando Airport, I received a suite, but not an upgrade, since, as the hotel's name implies, all rooms are suites. I did note that there seem to be a couple of larger, "executive" type suites, that might include a meeting room or something, but I was not upgraded to either of these.

At the Nashua, NH Sheraton, only after asking if a suite was available, I was upgraded to a "suite" on the SPG floor (the entire Club level floor seemed to be closed). The suite comprised a standard bedroom with a connecting door to the adjacent standard-size room furnished as a living room rather than a bedroom.

When I got my room (1 hour ago) I was asked for what i want as a gift, there were three choices: free movie, $10 food certificate and 500 points, I took points of course.

I was not upgraded, I got the same room as I booked, but with a better view. I thought that they probably have no available rooms. I checked online and saw that they do. I had to go down and ask for an upgrade. The receptionist told me that she will check, waited for 10 minutes and upgraded me to a suite.

I wander why can't they just do it automatically the way Marriott does or the way it's written in their rules?

I have no complains, but it just doesn't make sense.

Other than that the hotel and staff are nice.

P.S. Edited to correct spellling.

Just finished a great weekend stay at Westin Buckhead. I sent an advance email asking that my wife be allowed to check-in prior to my arrival since I was arriving on a late Friday night flight to meet her. She was able to check in with no problem and was given a three room suite on 17th floor. Living room with seating for 8 and a large plasma TV on the wall. Wet bar and fridge with a nice dining room with table seating 6. Two full baths and corner bedroom attached with nice view of the downtown skyline. Since we were not on the club levels, our cards were keyed for club access. Great Club Lounge. This property does not have many suites, so I am sure our good fortune was due to a slow weekend, but I'll take it. Had not been here in 8 months, but several staff members remembered me from about 50 nights in 2004 and early 2005. :)

This pas weekend 2/3-5 I was upgraded to an Executive Suite on the 28th floor with views of the bay and city. It is a two room suite, well basically two rooms put together, worked out perfectly for what I wanted and needed. THANKS !

Sheraton Uptown Albuquerque after skiing with my goddaughter and her two brothers. Both rooms upgraded to suites. The "boys" (aged 17 and 21) had inquired before arrival whether we would get an upgrade. They've travelled enough to expect a bit better and were most impressed to get their own suite! (I'm teaching them bad habits....)

Just got upgraded to the Presidential Suite at the Sheraton Miami Mart. The SPG Embassador (Susan Tracey) is awesome! She sent me an email prior to arrival and asked if I had any special requests. I asked if there was a suite upgrade per the Plat T&C because I needed a little extra work space. I also told her I fully understood if there wasn't. She sent me an email afterwards asking me if I had enough room! Very nice hotel!

Upgraded to Presidential Suite at Sheraton Fallsview last week. Great room with fireplace, living room and dining room -- not to mention great view of the falls. All on a $69CAD AAA rate!

I have previously reported on my success with the Westin Bonaventure. (Real suite every stay, except for one (about 40 stays in the last 2 years)).

This time I got a suite which beats (at least in size) any other suite I ever had. 32nd floor of the blue tower. A living room which is 1/4 of the entire tower. 2 bedrooms upstairs which have separate locked doors (but inside the suite)). Each bedroom is double the size of their standard room. I think the rack rate is $2,500.

Clearly a favor from the hotel for my 40 nights, because this is a specialty suite.

[No request for upgrade, just had room waiting when I arrived at 10pm]

I was upgraded to a suite, no questions asked. Good service from the concierge as well who pointed out several great restaurants within walking distance. :)
