Starwood Preferred Guest - The Westin Casuarina Las Vegas -- Opening Delayed
I just got a message that the opening of the The Westin Casuarina has been delayed until October 1, although the Web Site is only accepting reservations from October 15.
At this point, I only know that reservations are being transferred to the Luxor, which is not in the same league as I expect the Westin to be in.
I planned my short vacation, and coordinated it with my girlfriend's, around this trip and already booked the complicated, coordinated airline itinerary, both of which I can not really change.
Also of great importance, I do not know anything about *point and stay/night credit, which I was counting on and which I both want (the points) and need (stay/night credit) to keep my Platinum status for next year.
Also, I was hoping to enjoy a brand new Westin property and a Heavenly bed, and, hopefully a heavenly Platinum suite upgrade.
It is very possible that the hotel will give me all that I expected and more (well, at least some of it, as the Luxor is not the Westin or even one of the top properties in Las Vegas). Maybe they will bend over backwards to make it the special long weekend I was counting on?
I will have to wait until next week as the person who called has left for the weekend.
To be continued....

I had booked a night there for September 15, in which I had changed my itinerary so I could stay in LAS for two more days just to check it out. Nice of them to notify me about http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/mad.gif

I have a reservation for arrival in mid-October. A date before the present SPG website is accepting reservations for. I have heard nothing from Starwood. I certainly hope the Westin is not going to compare itself into a league like the Luxor. I am going to keep the Westin reservation but back myself up at another hotel.

Looks like they are just being very cautious on the opening date. Although it looks like the opening may very well be delayed, it seems unlikely that the opening will be delayed until October 15 or even delayed until October 1. My guess, based on talking with the hotel is that it will be open by the end of September, although not all rooms, such as suites will be ready. I do not know about the other hotel services yet.
The hotel seems very accommodative on getting *points/stay credit if you want to go elsewhere, be it to the Luxor or elsewhere.

I was transferring digital photos from my Memory Stick to my PC when I came across a photo of the Westin I took two weeks ago (July 16th). It is a view from the Bellagio. I'd be happy to send it to anyone who'd like to see it - BUT - it's a *big* image (985k) so I'd only recommend it if you have broadband or a T1.

It looks like guests are being "walked in advance" for stays in early October; one I've heard about is 01-05 OCT, who has been reaccomodated at the Luxor. Does anyone have any further information on when the soft opening will *really* be?

I happened to drive by the hotel today and by the looks of it I'd say Oct. 15th is pushing it. The front of the hotel is still very much under construction.
You never know with those Vegas construction teams though...they could have it finished on time.

I had a reservation there via priceline for Oct. 17-Oct. 20 and got an e-mail from priceline on Monday saying that it won't be ready and we get to stay at the Luxor. I was really looking forward to the Heavenly Bed.......
The website seems to be taking reservations starting on October 20 now.

I doubt they'll even hit an opening by Oct.20 or even 'till the 30th. I passed by the hotel last week, and the whole lot is still one huge construction site. The building itself looks half complete. From the outside, rooms with boarded up windows and some with no windows just show a skeleton of a room. They still have to deal with all the electrical, plumbing and not to mention all the computer systems to be fully functional. I was considering staying there on Oct30, but most likely be making res. elsewhere, due to the fact that I can't stand a stay at the Luxor.
