Seeing that Asia Triple Points promotion swayed my choice between The Oriental Hotel and the Sheraton Sukhumvit in Bangkok for a two week stay this [July] month. After paying my $3,000 hotel bill I did not see the extra points. Sending a Missing Credit Inquiry to Starwood got this reply "Our records indicate that your reservation was made at the World Travel rate, which is not eligible for Triple StarPoints." Needless to say, I saw no such disclaimer when booking online and feel hard done by. I did my part to send the business there way that the promotion was designed to attract. So, when booking online, realize you may not get these points.

P.S. The Sheraton Sukhumvit is an excellent hotel with a fine staff, so I have no quarrel with them.

The most annoying thing, is that I believe the World Travel rate is the same as the Triple Points rate. Sorry.

To get the triple points I believe you have to go to the Hotels page on spg.com and then there is a link to make a reservation with the triple points (and it includes promotion triple).

Frustrating, to say the least.

The special rate code only applies to BKK and SIN. In HKG, it looks like any paid rate will qualify.

Bugger - Just bitten by this promotion as well. I stayed at the Sheraton Grande especially to get the triple points. I was on a corporate rate of US$110, but was advised that I had to be on the SPGTRIPL rate of US$130 in order to get the triple points.

Oh well. Shift happens ;-)
