Starwood Preferred Guest - Website Problems

More problems.
I am trying to book a room in NYC over a weekend in October.
I use SPG.com, because I'm supposed to be able to find the best rate there.
Sho' nuff, I find an attractive rate at the Sheraton Russell, a fine property, "from $179 a night".
Problem is, when I go to actually book the freaking hotel, the website tells me that the hotel can't be booked on-line. So I call the plaitinum desk. Ask them to book a room at the $179 rate. They tell me a rate of like $229, which is higher than another website I could book the room on.
They tell me that the website is "having some problems", and that if I want to get the $179 rate, I should try back online at some indefinite point in the future, if and when the rate is there, because the internet is the only place to book that rate.
So, here I am, ready to make a reservation, and the website won't let me.

Same problems, same hotel. In fact, all of the NYC Starwood hotels are telling me that they can't be booked online. I am looking for a weekend night in November, and the best rate I can find on SPG.com is 269. However, it won't let me book it.

BoSox... are you looking for William to give you another Spanking...? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif
Havent you learned anything...? We are supposed to be thankful for what the great corporation gives us, bend over and .... say 'we love you Starwood'. I hope this is clear now.
Besides, I dont know what you are complaining about, did you see the 50K promotion points...??? Me neither.

Similar problem with the W in Chicago [$60 higher on the phone]. Called, got to internet support group...
"We have been doing an 'upgrade' of the web site and the links to the *wood site aren't working."
Went to W direct site, got the lower rate.
You've got to love those upgrades.... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
I had the same problems. Kudos to BoSoxFan for bringing it to Starwood's attention. This is an example of an area where Starwood needs to improve.

while it's clearly on the record that i am a big starwood fan, the web site does s*ck. there's simply no doubt about it.
that's just one reason why i am surprised about the last week's announcement (no elite benefits for reservations booked on orbitz, travelocity, etc.). wouldn't you want to make sure you have a great fully functional web site before making this move???? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif
I had a problem on the website where they have a big "bug". I had tried to make a reservation for tweo rooms and had hit the change button to search for AAA or "other promotions", etc. I didn't realize that the system had changed my two rooms to one room. The hotel was the LA Century City. I checked my reservations a couple of days later to find out that the reservation was for one room. WHen I tried to add the second room the rate had gone up almost $100/night. I called the Platinum desk and the hotel and there was nothing they could do about it. I ended up using points for the second room.

FWIW-
I'm still unable to book this room.
They've got to be kidding with this website.
Well...a day later but the same thing. Just went online to check availability for a stay and no matter what I enter (including any other city), it's:
Find Rooms & Rates: Search Results
No hotels were found in the location you entered.
Please search a different location.
Not even a "site down for maintenance" or the old "we'll give you 500 bonus points if you book via this phone number" thing.
Probably wouldn't have mattered anyway, as I just called the PlatCon number thinking I can book it through them. Wrong. The Platinum phone number is immediately answered with just a tape recording saying they are "down for maintenance."

Gee. I wonder if Hilton is open for business? Or even Priceline!
Or maybe I've been really "targeted." http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
