Starwood Preferred Guest - Will Starwood comp status from HHonors?

I have HHonors Gold but have recently changed jobs and don't like the Hilton Garden Inn where I travel most to.

Looks like there is a nice Sheraton nearby and was wondering if Starwood ever comps status if we switch over from another plan. Any ideas how this is done? Who to call, etc.? Since I would only have about 20 nights for the rest of this year, I wouldn't even get Gold until next year.

I believe SPG only comps top tier (Hilton Diamond) not mid-level. Do a search for comp and you'll probably find more.

Starwood Gold benefits can basically be had for being a AAA member and/or a Travelocity preferred member or having an SPG account through some companies. Not worth the comp to SPG Gold. SPG Plat. may just be the thing to change you over to SPG permanently.

I did a search on "comp" in this forum and didn't find much anything useful.

However, searched again and I did find 1 post with same answer as above. Not sure how I missed it the first time.

I am a Plat with Marriott and a Diamond with Hilton. I wanted to stay at a Westin with the rest of my project team (plus earn points for a trip to Venice and Florence), however I was not about to give up the status.

SPG received my Hilon paperwork by fax and upgraded me to Platinum the same day.

Current activity levels

Hilton 66 nights
Marriott 40 nights
Starwood 33 nights
Hyatt 12 nights (I dropped out of the Hyatt program as they do not give credit for nights on Govt rates. Grrrrrr)
