Starwood Preferred Guest - Used my points to book award for someone else...

Do I need to notify SPG that I have made a reservation for someone else using my points? The SPG.com engine doesn't let me enter comments into the reservation to that effect.

I made an award reservation for my mother, who has the same last name as me. Will she encounter any problems checking in, or should I call SPG and have them make a note?

I've always called and put the reservation in the name of the person who will be staying there. Many hotels check ID, etc... upon check-in and the hotel may give your mother some difficulty.

There is no problem with making an award reservation for someone else, so just give them a quick call and ask them to change the name to your Mother's.

The last thing you want is a problem for her at check-in.

Just have them make a note in the file. I booked a room for a friend and was no where near the hotel. No problems.

Have booked reward rooms for family and even friends with diffrent last names. Out of about 30 or some odd times, only once has there been a problem.
