It sounds so familiar ... TTT103 Dec 9, 02, 7:04 am I've wondered that myself. It's a rather powerful piece. I'd rather see it included on the W CD than the existing playlist. rhodeweary Dec 10, 02, 9:25 pm Just to bump this back up to the top of the list. William, any ideas on source of this music? Or Starwood, since I'm sure they've got the rights... Kind of reminds me a little of the Atlantis ad music--which I also like. sirtravellot Dec 12, 02, 4:45 pm William, I think they were asking about the SPG Promo channel in the guest rooms. Do you know what that is. According to other unnamed sources, the SPG music was put together by a production company in Chicago called Deaf Dog Music. While this one is also an original piece, it is similar to what one might find on the music score for the movie Amistad, which inspired it. At least I'm told that if you like the SPG piece, you will also like the soundtrack to the movie. Best regards, William R. Cheers chrisny2 Dec 14, 02, 10:13 pm hmmm...I searched on www.imdb.com (http://www.imdb.com) (which is pretty exhaustive) and couldn't find a movie called Armistad. Is it spelled differently? PMASON Dec 14, 02, 10:24 pm The correct spelling is Amistad (as was spelled above). Up until yesterday, I had only heard it at Westins.....but, I am here to advise that the Sheraton in Nashua, NH is also playing it. I am surprised that this thread got as far as it did with the notion that the tune itself was only 15 seconds long --- is anyone out there really paying attention?!?!?!?! It lasts about 3.5 minutes with scenes from perhaps 40 or 50 global properties. I am always amused to see that the stunning seaside resort showcased at the very end of the loop has NOT been a Starwood hotel now for two years --- the former Westin Ixtapa, MX. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Starwood Lurker Dec 16, 02, 2:37 pm <font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by sbtinme: I have enjoyed this tune, too, now for a couple of years. The piece playing at the hotels is definitely longer than the 15 second tv commercial that advertises Westin and Starwood Preferred Guest. Since these things are probably out-sourced to various advertising agencies who are given photographs and clips to chose from, it does not surpirse me that every now and then a hotel shows up that has already left the Starwood family of hotels. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Best regards, William R. I've listened to the piece over and over, and suspect that it is an african language, but am curious as to the correct answer. My previous guess was that it was some sort of southern pacific island national anthem. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif BTW I encourage folks so inclined to spend some time watching the commercial closely. It really is amazingly well produced. The music and imagery do a great job of reinforcing the text on the screen, and the individual "scenes" contain a lot of subtlety. Nevsky Mar 4, 03, 11:58 am I was wondering what music is played for the wake-up music at many European hotels. I think it is different from the music that has been discussed in this thread. jakpot Mar 4, 03, 12:27 pm This is great, I've been wondering about that music for a couple of years now. My question is; where can I get a copy for myself? I'll even pay for it!!! 1D Starwood Lurker Mar 4, 03, 5:24 pm The unnamed sources do not know what language the voices on this musical track is in. It is not for sale. If you like it, buy the soundtrack to Amistad, which is very much like it. Sincerely, William R. How about stay in a Starwood property and watch the SPG channel. See how many places you can identify from all the video clips they've edited together. The more you can identify, the more chances you have to win free nights in any of the featured locations. Okay...maybe that's silly...but it would be fun to find out who on FlyerTalk can correctly identify the most places featured on the SPG channel, whilst listening to the Amistad-ish theme music. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif Nevsky Mar 5, 03, 3:25 pm <font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by Starwood Lurker: Where? PMASON Mar 30, 03, 11:35 am OK...here's my guess at the music that everyone is talking about on the SPG commercial. Take a listen to track 6 on the Pure Moods II soundtrack. It's a song entitled Zarabanda - Adiemus III by Craig Armstrong. If you listen from the middle of the song to the end, it sounds exactly like the theme music on the SPG commercial. Here is a link to the Pure Moods website (http://www.pure-moods.com/discography.html). Scroll down to Pure Moods II. The sample on the website is the first part of the song...remember that the song won't sound familar until halfway through. ------------------ AA Platinum, Delta Gold, Starwood Platinum, Fairmont President's Club Gold, Hyatt Diamond, Marriott Gold sbtinme Mar 30, 03, 5:51 pm PMASON -- Hmmm. I liked the link, but I have a different assessment. I think the song you point out approaches the same genre of the *wood theme, but does not have many similarities (certainly not enough for one to confuse the two pieces of work). Is there something I'm missing? Bookexp Mar 31, 03, 10:58 am The language in the movie “Amistad” is in Mende, a language spoken in Sierra Leone. I think the SPG theme song has a familiar tone with the soundtrack of the movie “the mission” by Robert De Niro convert Sep 17, 09, 10:01 pm So so sorry about bumping this old old thread. I was listening to the soundtrack to Amistad and remembered the Starwood theme song many years ago. I actually really liked that short 15-20 second theme song and while Amistad is similar, it isn't the same. Like new Coke. Well in a brave new world of Youtube and all, I thought I could find a copy, but no luck. I know chances are small, but I have to ask. Any copy of that commercial out there? woofie Sep 18, 09, 10:08 pm Was this what played when you turned on the TV at certain LodgeNet hotels? A very pleasant 5-minute instrumental accompanied by screensaver-like waterdrops, bubbles, kaleidoscope, and other computer-generated graphics. "Press MENU entertainment for all ages ON YOUR SCHEDULE" I've seen/heard it only twice -- once at turndown at the Hotel Ivy in Minneapolis, and once at aloft Plano. Neither one plays it anymore. It was very pleasant. I found myself listening to it for hours. woofie Sep 18, 09, 10:17 pm I also found a snippet of this song on YouTube -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xTIKqV6UpQ at 05:24. convert Sep 21, 09, 8:38 pm I also found a snippet of this song on YouTube -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xTIKqV6UpQ at 05:24. No not quite. Thanks for the video. The video I was interested in was a quick 30 second video and music on visiting various starwood hotels. It was the focus of the early parts of the thread. I guess I'm just out of luck even in this internet world. |
