MilesBuzz! - Going to fall short of Preferred...HELP!

I just realized I'm going to fall about 3,500 miles short of preferred on USAir this year unless I think fast. I live in Charlotte, so it's pretty easy to get some flights.

Do I have until 12/31/99 or 2/28/00 to hit preferred?

Also, anyone have any ideas on how to make up the miles quick? Do efares earn miles?

Efares most definitely earn miles and you better believe this is the most popular time of the year to do transcon efares. There are thousands of FFs in your same situation.

You could do a mileage run to the west coast for around $300. If you do it on one of the holidays you can go there and back without a minimum stay. For example, you could fly CLT-SEA-CLT on Dec. 24 or Dec. 25 for $301.75 including taxes. Use the Travelocity Best Fare Finder to see your options.

You have to earn(fly)the miles within the current year, but the 1999 benefits last until 02/29/00.

There is an Esaver to San Fran from Charlotte. There is also a winery in Napa that I love, but they won't ship wine to NC and you can't buy it in stores.

Two problems solved! Now, I just have to convince my wife that I'm not totally insane.

Don't even try to convince your wife that you are NOT insane. I gave up long ago. She KNOWS my FF habits are insane and didn't even blink when I told her I was doing PHL-SAN-PHL on Dec 18/19 as a mileage run. They get used to it and accept it.

About the same response I got from my wife when I told her about the PDX-PHX-PDX trip on Dec. 18/19...as a mileage run.
