I AM A REGULAR STARWOOD MEMBER, I WAS GOLD FOR A YEAR BUT THEN LOST IT, I JUST PUT $5,500 ON A BILL FROM THE SHERATON HOTEL IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD, AND ONLY 5700 POINTS TRANSFERED...SHOULDN'T IT BE DOUBLED OR SOMETHING BECAUSE IT WAS A SHERATON HOTEL? ALSO I WAS WONDERING I HAD ABOUT 70 ROOMS RENTED AND HAD MY ACCOUNT NUMBER ON THE MASTER LIST, ANY IDEA IF I WILL GET POINTS FOR THAT?
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP

First you can only claim up to 3 rooms for Starpoints according to the terms and conditions. That doesn't mean you can't sometimes work around that http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
You should have set up yourself as a meeting planner and booked it a a function, the meeting planner can often garner 20,000 or more spg points see spg.com there is a description of what is available and some promo info.
Starwood points are awarded 2 for every ELIGIBLE dollar spent (3 if your Gold or Plat). It really would depend on what made up the 5700$$ on your bill,

Thanks for the info
I know that the 5500 dollar bill was from some of the rooms that were under the master bill.
I recieved one point for each dollar spent, like it was a regular purchase, despite the fact that I used the amex at the sheraton. That is what confused me.
Oh well next time I will look into being an event planner, since in every sense of the word that is what I ended up doing for all those rooms.

If you are talking about Starpoints earned through the AmEx card, then everything is correct - you earn the same amount of points (1 per $ spent) no matter where you use your card, including Starwood properties.

juniorflyer, please keep in mind that the usual earnings for being a Starwood Preferred Planner are 1 Starpoint for every three eligible dollars.
Sounds like you actually made out better on this one than usual. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

You get points for things that are not usually eligible to earn Starpoints otherwise. Meetings and catering for example.

Are there any additional bonuses that are ever given to meeting planners. I am just trying to understand how I could spend over ten grand in the sheraton and end up with 3000 points?
Thanks for your help

Well, 10G's divided by 3 = a little more than 3000 points for a Starwood Preferred Planner, so it sounds pretty close to right for me - especially if you take into consideration that taxes are not an eligible charge. What did the contract you signed allow for? Did you contract with the hotel for Starpoints for this meeting?
As far as bonus points above and beyond the normal 1 Starpoint per $3 eligible dollars, you can spend some time at this web site looking at Bonus Starpoints offers for meeting planners:

I did mention it to them. It was in the contract. I do understand that the math adds up. But I was just trying to understand the system.
Thanks

No problem. Like I said just visit the web site mentioned above and look it over closely. You may even want to take a peek at the tab called "Member Benefits". This should outline the program for you. If you have any other questions, just let me know.
