Does anybody know how much it cost to park at the Le Centre Sheraton Montreal? I am a resident of Chicago and i know that the hotels downtown charge something like US$30 a day for valet parking and i really hope that i dun have to pay that much during my trip in Montreal.

From the comments posted previously, it seems like this hotel is pretty good but i have the nice dilemma of having to choose between the Sheraton or the RC. The latter of course has the name to back it up but i heard mixed things about the hotel. Some say that the rooms need a facelift and others say that the staff is bad. Any comments? I think there should be a forum for the RC and the FS even though they dun have any rewards programme.

RE: parking. It's $22CAD for valet and $17CAD for self. Must be a low-ceiling. It has a warning that no vehicles over 6' tall can be parked in their garage.

You can park around the Sheraton hotel for aprox. 10 USD per day. Day parking around the lots in the downtown area go from 5 USD to 12 USD.

If you are not going to have a car, even better. Montreal is a compact city and the car is not necessary if you are just planning to stay on the island.

There are parking meters on the streets and in the downtown area the rate is 1.50 CAD or .95 USD per hour. The hours of operation for the meters are 9 AM to 6 PM Mon.-Wed.+Sat and 9 AM to 9 PM Thu-Fri. Any other time, the parking at meters is free (except of course where posted otherwise).

You can use this information to save some money (for example knowing now that parking is free at nights and on Sunday on the street, etc.) but the parking lots aren't that expensive in USD anyway. And you avoid having to get up early to move your car. Watch your parking on Boulevard Rene-Levesque (the large street right in front of the hotel). There are express bus lanes and thus no parking nor even stopping during morning and evening rush hours.

Now what do I do about my trip to Boston where it's going to cost me 50 CAD to park next to my hotel rather than the 16 CAD it would cost in Montreal? Compared to major American cities, the cost of parking in Montreal is a joy.

Thanks for the reply everybody. The main reason why I am going to get a car is that my "entourage" are interested in surfing around the area and so a car is probably necessary. I dun think I will be using the car much in Montreal itself though. I hate driving in cities! It is also nice to know that the parking prices are not as ridiculous as Chicago's.
