View Full Version : Luxury in LA

At the end of February I will be completing a RTW with a 2 night stay in LA before heading back to Scotland. I want my last two nights to be somewhere nice. I am Starwood Platinum (always treated very well!) and am using Starwood as much as I can on the way round the world. Where is best in LA downtown/Beverley Hills? Should I defect to the Peninsula to end my trip?

All comments and suggestions greatly appreciated.

The St. Regis LA is an incredible hotel--I spent the first night of my honeymoon there in an amazing suite.

I second the vote for the St Regis LA, as a Platinum you'll most likely get a large corner room (not a suite) on a high floor with 2 balcony's. The location is very close to Beverly Hills in Century City (directly across from the Fox studios).

St. Regis is the top Starwood hotel in town. Normally good Platinum upgrades. There are probably a half a dozen hotels in the same class or better in LA, but they are not Starwood.

If you want to hide away in luxury, or have to cab it everywhere, try the St. Regis.

If you want more of a scene, go for the W Westwood, which is also in walking distance of shops/theatres in Westwood Village.

As a Plat, you should have a good-sized room at either.

Seriously, though, I've stayed in three of the most "walkable" areas of (greater) LA that I know of- Sunset Strip, Westwood and Santa Monica. All have their strengths and weaknesses, but none really (IMHO) have enough strengths on their own to make it worth a longer stay without a car (or lots of expensive cab rides). It is nice, however, to stay somewhere you don't have to get the car out of valet/self-park _every_ time you want to do anything (like you do at the hotels on "avenue of the stars"- St. Regis, Westin, for instance).

I would avoid the W Westwood unless you are looking for a place with a sceney bar. The hotel is noisy, has no view, and the service is indifferent.

QuietLion's point is taken, but if you don't like sceney bars, you should avoid W's altogether.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Westwood W. All suites. Very nice grounds. Slightly loud, as noted. But walking distance to Westwood (one of LA's coolest neighborhoods IMHO) and generally good opportunities for star gazing.

I've never stayed at the St. Regis, but people talk very highly of it.

Absolutely no question in my mind. If I was completing a round-the-world trip and wanted to finish it in style -- St. Regis all the way. I'm a W fan (and not for the "sceney bars") but in LA, it's definitely the St. Regis, especially for a stay like this one.

Having stayed at the W, Century Plaza and St Regis many times, there is simply no doubt here.... Go for the St. Regis, you won't regret it!

I have my 10 year old daughter with me so it looks like the W is not appropriate.....so I will bypass the Peninsula and go St Regis. I have points so it looks a bargain at 10,000 per night........
