Starwood Preferred Guest - No Platinum Amenity when you book the res the same day?
I booked a reservation using points at the Westin Palace in Madrid earlier this week, and didn't recieve an amenity. When I inquired upon check out. I was told that I didn't recieve one because I had made the reservation the same day I checked in. Is this correct? Has anyone else had this experience?

I've never seen this happen for a paid stay. I've booked some an hour before arriving and never ran into this issue.
MY guess would be that the hotel prints out a list of platinum guests late the previous night or early in the morning and has housekeeping put platinum amenities in the rooms of newly arriving platinum guests once they have cleaned the room. Since you made a reservation the same day, you were not on the list. Did you ask to have an amenity delivered?
I did ask, and they said since I checked in the same day there was nothing they could do. That they had it noted in their records for the next time I'm there.

I just did the same thing yesterday. Made the reward reservation and checked in 2 hours later. I got the Platinum amenity - no problem upon check in. This was a Sheraton cat 3.

As I have heard from certain hotels, if the notes do not show that the amenity has been prearranged when you get there (ie, the reservation wasn't just made), then the front desk is supposed to notice this and arrange to have it sent shortly after checkin. Your hotel may vary!.

My opinion is that you should have received a Platinum amenity regardless of when you make your reservation. If you book late in the day and arrive even later, it can certainly put a kink in the process, but they should have recovered and sent it up with your permission either after you settled in or early the next day.

Same here, I booked same day and gotten the form to fill out at check-in.
