Did a 4 day long weekend here this past weekend, and received excellent service as SPG platinum. Thanks go to JimAtTheBeach for setting me up. We arrived late at night but were preblocked into an oceanfront suite X14.
This was a beautiful room in the north tower, which had the new Sheraton bed. I have never had a full night's sleep on one, and found that it was just as comfortable as the Westin bed - a nice pillow top mattress and loads of pillows. The suite had a great view of the ocean and a large patio with two chairs and two chaise lounges.
You enter into a room with a wet bar, TV, couch and desk, and proceed right into the second room through large double doors, where you find the bed. There is a walk in closet, and one of the best features of the room is the excellent bathroom which has a large marble enclosure which houses both the shower and a jacuzzi tub. Large double vanity with plenty of space. Very bright.
The service at this hotel was really good. We were told about the Promise at check-in, which was handled quickly. There is twice daily maid service. All the people wet encountered were really friendly.
The food service was good, better than what I expected. Just as one example, we ordered nachos late at night on arrival, and it was presented iwth a huge serving of fresh guacomole with large chunks of fresh avocado in it. Nice little touches like this often accompanied meals. I was also impressed by the offering of healthy foods; for example they have a nice egg white, asparagus and spinach omelette for brunch. The Beach House was really great; Al Carbon was okay with one item undercooked a tad, which was promptly corrected. Otherwise very good.
We barely left the resort because the weather was beautiful and the pool scene is great. To all the people who recommended this as a "top pool" in the SPG system, I would concur - especially with the ocean to swim in 50 feet away, this is ideal.
Thanks much to JimAtTheBeach and the Bal Harbour staff for a nice time!
