I came back into my room tonight and, voila, high-speed internet access had magically appeared. I don't know if they have it installed in every room yet, but regardless, it was a very pleasant surprise.

One more reason to never visit a Marriott again...

Regardless of the high speed internet, in my opinion this is an excellent SPG property. If you want a nice place that won't hassle you regarding Platinum benefits, this is the place to go if you're visiting DC. The staff is also very courteous. It's conveniently located near the Dupont Metro Stop.

I can agree with this having stayed here for 25 nights or so over the past two months.

While there are some Westins that certainly top the Embassy Row in terms of overall quality of customer service, the Embassy Row consistenly recognizes/upgrades Platinums, and has reliable service -- which is more than I can say for the Grand...

I agree with the other two contributors here. I regretably spent over 30 weeks at the Grand Westin before switching to the Embassy Row. I never once got upgraded to a suite at the Grand, and the staff was routinely stiff and cold, with the exception of one person...Charlotte.

At the Embassy Row I am routinely upgraded to a suite, even to room 610 last week which is about the size of the downstairs of my house. It was riduculous, actually...I could have held a party for 30 or 40 people. The Embassy Row staff knows me well and treats me well. I check a bag every weekend with the concierge stuffed with my toiletries, a radio, and other items. When I checked in this week the concierge delivered the bag to me before I got my key. He remembered me and what my bag looked like...I didn't even have a chance to ask for the bag or to give him a claim check. The door staff is fantastic.

And, I'm writing this using the high speed internet connection that showed up in my room last night! Oh joy, how sweet it is! This is a well run hotel.

BoulderFlyer,

I couldn't agree more about the door staff and the recognition at this hotel.

Just curious though...do you really mean 610? From the looks of the floor plan (I'm on 6) it looks like a standard room.

Room types from my experience (if anyone's interested...)

_12 and _14: Executive Suites - nice, but cozy two room suites

_02 and _01: Junior Suites - oversized rooms facing Massachusetts Avenue

_04: Embassy Suite - very nice, very, very spacious two room suite (in fact, the largest one I think I've ever had)

snorkmaster, I might have the room number wrong. I'll take a look when I return on Monday night. The front desk told me it was the "Ambassabor's Suite." I do remember that it had *three* doors leading to the hallway. It was enormous...had a dining room type table, a couch, several chairs, a hutch with a few plates in it, two bathrooms, separate bedroom.
