Starwood Preferred Guest - Consistent problems booking award stays

Am I the only one that is unable to book a non-smoking room for award stays. My Plat profile lists me as requesting non-smoking, but EVERY time I try I book an award stay online, the only options presented are SMOKING rooms. Since SPG does not allow for special remarks to be added to award reservations, I often have to go through the hassle of having the front desk change my room type. (this is not an issue of the hotels being near capacity and smoking rooms are the only ones left. it happens EVERY time and even at hotels with 20% occupancy rates for that night.) Just me with this problem?

Yes. I see that often. I always call up and have them put non-smoking into the reservation.

Then there is also this caveat on the web site during the redemption process:

*There may not be a room available with your specified preferences when you arrive, but the hotel will do its best to accommodate you. When booking award reservations, Starwood Preferred Guests® are guaranteed the best available standard rooms at the time of check in.
