Starwood Preferred Guest - 2 questions RE: 50% coupon

1)Do you still get Starwood Points if you use the coupon?
2)How can you get the bonus for online booking if you don't know if the hotel you want participates in the 50% off offer?

You do get starwood points for it
You can only book it by calling the call center

You can make your reservation on line (make sure it isn't an Internet only rate).

Then call Starwood and see if the SPG 50 is available (and a better rate). They can change the existing reservation - preserving the online booking bonus.
