Starwood Preferred Guest - Best *wood property in San Francisco?

I've seen a variety of reviews on the W and the Palace, but no agreement on the which of the SF *wood's are considered the best. To give you some context, I'm wondering where to park my business for weekly business trips (check-in Monday, check-out Thursday) to SF on a consistent basis. FWIW, I'm *wood Platinum. If you had to spend 3 nights in SF every week for the next year, where would you stay? Where would you get the best treatment, you think?
Thanks in advance.
P.S. I'm Hyatt Diamond, too, so was mulling that around as well.

Why not try both?
And when you're there, talk to the GM, explain your planned stays and see what they will do for you?
I don't think you can go wrong at either property. The Palace is closer to Market St, and the W is closer to the convention center.
Hyatt also has very nice properties in SF. (The Grand Hyatt and the Park Hyatt.)

Don't think you can go wrong. If you like the more traditional hotels, then go to the Palace. The modern look; W. They are both in the same area.

Any others I should consider?

Not stayed their for a while, but before W, I was partial to the St Francis. However, I'm now a converted W fan and will be there in two weeks (thanks to the folks on this board who jogged my memory about the Free Fridays that I earned http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif )

In general, I prefer W-type hotels to stuffier, more old fashioned places. However, I much prefer the Palace to the W. It's handier for the business district and shopping and, although traditional, I don't find it at all stuffy.
They're also very good about giving Plat upgrades.

Thanks for that info. I was definitely looking for that extra tidbit on Plat upgrades.

Palace, W, St Francis probably in that order - I was told the W did not have a high proportion of suites, especially compared to the other 2 so that might impact your decision. W has high speed internet, StF doesn't, don't know about the Palace.
I am going back to all 3 when I make Plt - in a few weeks - see what happens...

The Palace is the best Sheraton in the US. With your planned stay schedule you will get one of the outstanding rooms, and these are truly outstanding (don't forget the hotel was built to accomodate the gold rush wealth and claimed to be the most lavish hotel in the world when it opened).
The Palace also has a super swimming pool for a city hotel (the best in SF) and a nice gym. Maxwell's (their "coffee shop") has some of the best California food in the city (really! try their scallop salad) and the main dining room is stunning. Best food of any hotel in SF (and in the top ten in the US). I had to be dragged kicking and screaming to eat in Maxwell's the first time (and only consented because of their mosaic tile floor), and discovered it was a fine restaurant that just happened to be in a hotel.
There is a lot of variance between rooms in the hotel (at least 30 different room types), change rooms if you don't like what you get and it will be different. The best rooms are several times better than the worst rooms.

and, great post number_6. so, my main priorities are (1) suite upgrade and (2) gym/pool.
so, everyone, i guess The Palace is the way to go? most W's have miserable suite percentages and (at least in NYC) the W's don't blow me away with pool/gym assets.
i'm considering a trip for Labor Day. thanks.

You said the best treatment, right? For me that would be the Sheraton Fisherman's Wharf. This is the only Starwood hotel in the U.S. that consistently upgrades me to the Presidential Suite. It is an awesome room.
But my real choice of hotels in SF is dictated by location.
