Do you guys know what, if anything, Starwood gives to those members that have earned 1 Million points? Something like what United does by naming a plane after you once you've reached 1 Million miles.

On a similar topic, do you know if Starwood gives out gifts to its Plat. members? Or do they have a designated "Preferred Guest Manager" on site to handle the SPG members needs?

I'm in the process of reaching Diamond status with Hilton and I'm going to try to get Starwood Platinum, thought I might check with everyone just to see what sort of perks I should be expecting.

I was comped PLT based on Hyatt Diamond. If you are planning comp PLT, you get the usual benefits like suite upgrades and a Concierge [only if you request]
I have not received any gifts nor been told of any onsite PLT manager.

I thought United stopped naming planes? They have too many 1 million milers. Is this true?

It's really hard to accumulate 1 Million points in a SPG account balance. Maybe they should name a tower after 1 Million pointer.

I vote that we have a prestigous property named after William for going beyond the call of duty.

I say William as I doubt any porperty would not want to be named the Sheraton Lurker or Westin Lurker http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

My bet would be that any property named "Lurker" would repel regular travellers and no doubt get a flood of FT'ers. Hey that means we all get upgrades courtesy of William. Yippeee. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Who's in for a name change?

Any info on type of traveller, how many stays/nights for the 1MM points, is it an FT'er ;=) etc.

Well, he is a Platinum member from the West Coast that stays exclusively at the St. Regis, New York and pays for the Madison Suite every time he stays, which is very often. Not a Flyertalker as far as I can tell.

That's about all I can say - privacy issue, you know. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Although I know it's not what was intended in the title of the thread, I'm sure there are more than a few FT'ers who bought enough subscriptions to InsideFlyer to get more than 1 million points. Quite different from earning 1 million points during stays at starwood hotels!

Wouldn't that have taken over 400 subscriptions? That's $24,000! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif

Well being quite new to this and not being absolutely sure there wasn't a catch I only bought 100. But I wish now that I had bought more - it's a much better return than investing it in stocks :

I think MCI is now offering a choice of 5,000 shares of stock instead of 5,000 ff miles. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I don't think it's hard to earn 1 million. Since 2/00, I've accumulated close to 500,000 lifetime points, although my active balance is less due to redemptions and the Qantas-->Concorde conversion.

I inquired of the people at IF, and they said that there were some people who purchased THOUSANDS OF SUBSCRIPTIONS during this last promotion.

WOW!!!

Thousands...? Cool!

And a bit risky (if I may suppose that those points will finally buy concorde tix for other people...)

And to think, I had always considered myself highly resourceful when accumulating points and I missed one of the most lucrative promotions that was staring me straight in the face! Alas, so much to learn.

In any case, is it still possible to subscribe? And if so, what is the current bonus opportunity for doing so? Thanks.

You can get 3000 Delta miles for a subscription:

I seriously considered buying many many IF subscriptions and transferring all the points to AA. In the end I bought a few, but not very many.

Basically you're buying: lifetime Platinum, plus setting yourself up with your own personal quasi-AAirpass.

Whether this was worth it for someone depended on:
- what's the value of lifetime platinum to you?
- how will you spend the miles? (much more value to use them for premium int'l than to replace cheapo domestic coach specials.)
- what's your bet about whether 'lifetime' platinum will really be lifetime?, and what's your bet about what will happen to AAdvantage miles, award levels/availability, etc.

How long has the Starwood program been around? I am surprised there are not more millionaires out there.

I'm going to say Starwood came around onto the program scene approx 1999
Have earned clearly over 1 mill Starpoints lifetime and climbing! Redeemed over half and working my way to the 2 mill mark with quite a way to go!
Hopefully not at the 1 mile per dollar spent ratio!
The majority was not earned by buying subscriptions but it sure helped.I was rewarded this year with 2 stunning plastic Platinum luggage tags.I placed these treasures next to the other ones they sent me in the past that sit in the same dresser draw.Any offers out there? Will trade Starpoints for elite prestige tags.......
They could be worth something one day you never know! Just kidding here (grin)
Happy travels and earning all !!!!
Keep those rewards coming

I certainly introduced an acquaintance to InsideFlyer who bought in excess of 1,000 subs. He is a regular Concorde flyer so the savings are potentially enormous.

Having said that, I still don't get the impression from SPG that there are that many people with >1m SPG points out there.
