I want to book a room at the W but the rate that i want is showing a smoking room. As a *wood gold would they "upgrade" me to a non-smoking room? i would hate to pay the non-refundable rate and then be stuck in a smoking room. any advice on how to go about doing this would be appreciated.
thanks

I would almost bet you that if you put it in the special requests, you won't have a problem. I have booked before when only smoking rooms are available and didn't have a problem. The only problem was once at the Four Points SF Bay Bridge awhile back, the smoking floor was almost unbreathable, in the hallways, in my room, it was an entire smokebomb on that floor. (The hotel has since become 100% nonsmoking.)

I also put the request in the Special Requests field, but I've also had very good luck just calling the hotel directly during normal M-F business hours and speaking with the on-site reservations person. They usually switch and confirm me to non-smoking no problem, on the spot.
So what do you do with those Cubanos, Mark? Chew them? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Here is a well-written response from rrz518 on the matter and an official Starwood Lurker statement.
Are Non Smoking rooms guaranteed at Westin? (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum74/HTML/003574.html)
