I am considering using a free weekend at this property in August. I would love to get some feedback of people that have stayed here. What is platinum recognition like? How many suites are there for upgrades? What are the restaurants on site like?

I have checked the hotel website, so I am looking for some "personal observations" that people have made. The property looks quite nice.

Salishan lodge is a fairly pleasant and sedate property, originally built in a style that blends in well with the surrounding terrain. I have already used one free weekend there and plan to allocate my remaining free weekend there in another week.

I do not know how many suites they have but the rooms are very spacious so have proved quite adequate for my needs. I could discern no "special" platinum recognition other than the choice of amenity but they treat all of their guests fairly well.

In addition to a heavenly bed, each room contains a small refrigerator, a gas fireplace and a separate bath and shower (non-heavenly). Your keycard will give you admittance to the pool, sauna and access to Salish Spit, a slender peninsula projecting into the ocean.

The lobby is fairly small but boasts a computer with high speed internet access, situated directly across from the front desk. The lodge also contains two restaurants plus a bar upstairs. On Friday nights during the summer, you can partake in a seafood buffet, which is somewhat overpriced for the Oregon coast at $35. I often arrive quite late and cut a deal for a desert-only buffet at considerably less money.

The resort is on the hillside to the east of Hwy 101 and does not front on the Ocean or Bay. It does have Ocean views. The spit, as mentioned above, offers water access. Normally very cold water-this isn't the Atlantic.

One of our favorite coast restaurants is the Bay House up the road on 101. Reservations strongly suggested.

Across the highway from the resort entrance is a small shopping center including a fairly good gallery. There are also a number of good galleries within 15 miles of the lodge.

The Oregon coast is really spectacular particularly the further south you go. Enjoy your trip.

For those who visit in the off season, Salishan is offering a Priceline style "name your own price" promotion where you set the price you wish to pay for select nights- offered on the website.

Has anyone had any successful experiences naming their price (a la Priceline-type bidding) at this property?

If so, what were your successful bids?

Thanks.

My wife and I stayed at Salishan on our honeymoon in October 2001. Check out our trip report:
