Starwood Preferred Guest - New to *Wood

I was comped to Platinum earlier this year from Hilton Diamond but for various reasons I have yet to stay at a Starwood property.

Now I have several stays planned in the next couple of weeks.

Any special magic words I need to say to obtain Platinum-level treatment? Or is Starwood better than Hilton in that regard?
