Starwood Preferred Guest - Transfer Starpoints into son's FF-account?

Hi!
I am thinking about transfering my Starpoints into my son's UA-FF account, as he then has enough miles for a transatlantic award-ticket (I have cleared out my UA account recently, so I cannot transfer them into my account).
But from what I read posted by the lurker in http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum74/HTML/002165.html , I guess that the name in my SPG-profile has to match the name of the holder of the target FF-account for the transfer.
Am I correct with this assumption, and if so, is there any way for me to get my points to transfer into my son's UA-account???
Thanks for any help!
Greetings - Dirk
Create him an SPG account at your address, transfer the points to it (family members can transfer b/w accounts), then use his account to transfer points to UA. William - is that within the rules?

PHL,
Its true that you can share awards between accounts but I don't think you can transfer points between accounts (ie. my wife can't put 3000 miles into my account for a 7000 point award but we can use her 3000 and my 4000 for a 7000 point award). At least that is the way I understand the rules.

You can transfer points between accounts, but I don't know if it has to be between spouse's. I was wondering this myself. Both my husband and I have our own AMEX cards. Every month I transfer points from his account into mine, and when I get 20K I transfer them to my AA account where I am working on lifetime Platinum. When I reach that we will do something else, probably let them accumulate until we need points in some account. Have never used points for a hotel stay.

Thanks for that link, that one escaped me. In there, I read: "Basically what happens is a family member gets their own account and as long as the address is the same on both accounts an internal transfer can take place successfully."
So as far as I understand that, it is possible among family-member with the same residential adress, so son is included. Will I experience any difficulties if my son has a different last name?
Also as he is not a SPG-member right now, will he have to have any SPG-activity in his account to be able to get the 5000 bonus points for a 20000 points transfer?

Enroll the son into Starwood Preferred Guest under the same name his United Airlines Mileage Plus account is under. Call the Customer Contact Center nearest you and request an internal transfer. The last name is not an issue, but the address will be. Be sure it is the same as is on your account. Once the son is enrolled, have him take you to lunch at one of our hotels nearby. He needs to pay over US$10 before taxes at a hotel restaurant where if you were staying as a guest, you could charge the meal to your room. Get a receipt if you get the "deer in the headlights look" from the restaurant staff after requesting Starpoints for the meal. Once the restaurant charge has been credited (either voluntarily or by sending us the receipt via fax at 512-836-4002) and your internal transfer is complete, he can transfer to United Airlines Mileage Plus with no problems.

Thank you so much for the clarification.
Now I only have to find a participating hotel somewhere here...I guess the FP Cologne does participate (they have a restaurant), but must find out for sure.
