any experience with Sheraton - Sunnyvale CA ?
Starwood Preferred Guest - Sheraton Sunnyvale CAView Full Version : Sheraton Sunnyvale CA debo_nair Apr 20, 02, 1:26 pm any experience with Sheraton - Sunnyvale CA ? UpgradeMe Apr 20, 02, 1:31 pm Use of search quickly reveals: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum74/HTML/002688.html Eastbay1K Apr 20, 02, 1:49 pm It has a very "motel" feel - I have stayed there probably 3 times, but it has been awhile. On the other hand, its a perfectly acceptable property. rocky Apr 20, 02, 3:02 pm Sheraton San Jose in Milpitas is nicer, though neither is anything to write home about. SJ has much less of a motel feel. AA_SPG_Fan Apr 20, 02, 3:03 pm I have alot of experience with that property, as I stay there several weeks for the past 2 years - including the past couple of weeks. Honestly, I hate it --- its convenient for me to where I work, but the rooms feel cheap and -yes- motelish. The upgrades are no big event (PLAT or GOLD); but the staff is always very nice. The restaurant (FAZ) is always pretty good. I usually go out of my way to stay at the W Suites Newark - where I have been spoiled, particularly recently - with some amazing suites, great beds, awesome staff. The only problem is it is about 20 min from where I work and it is also in a remote location. Im not a big fan of the Sheraton San Jose either. phatteus Apr 20, 02, 3:54 pm I live in the bay area and have been "staying" at the Sheraton Sunnyvale and Sheraton Four Points over the last few weekends ($59 via click-it) to bump up the stay counter while on the stays count double promo. I expected that the Four Points would not be quite as nice as the Sheraton, but was blown away with how nice the Four Points was. Nicer lobby, bigger, better rooms, and the Faultline Brewery is right next door. Take a look. debo_nair Apr 20, 02, 5:19 pm Is there a double promo going on right now at Sunnyvale Sheraton? I am getting this too - so, I stagger my stays between Sheraton Sunnyvale/4-Points/W|Suites, etc ... plus, the 500-bonus for each is always nice ... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif I would agree -- the 4-Points Sunnyvale is nicer in terms of rooms -- but, I hate that coffee shop there! Yucky food and bad service ... TrojanHorse Apr 20, 02, 7:52 pm Its about my fourth choice when I go to Sunnyvale. I like the motel feel description.. its ok, but you can do better phatteus Apr 20, 02, 8:09 pm <font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by debo_nair: Is there a double promo going on right now at Sunnyvale Sheraton?</font> Not that I know of, I am on the targetted promo. Booking at starwood.com gets you the 500 points but a higher rate than I can get via the www.travelweb.com (http://www.travelweb.com) click-it weekends rate of $59. So I don't get the 500 points, but save the money instead... schriste Apr 20, 02, 8:29 pm Sheraton Sunnyvale at $59 is worth the price. I would not want to pay much more than that though... "Traditional non-smoking, exterior view" either 1 King or 2 Queens; example dates: April 26 & 27, May 3 & 4, May 10 & 11. But it's fully-prepaid, non-refundable. If you can risk the non-refundability, book it there and get the 500-point booking bonus. Kathy debo_nair Apr 21, 02, 10:37 am Kathy I wanted 2 nights for may 25 - may 27 at $59. I see theses rates at travelocity.com but not on official website . do u see these rates for the dates i want ? KathyWdrf Apr 21, 02, 7:58 pm <font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by debo_nair: Kathy I wanted 2 nights for may 25 - may 27 at $59. Here are the first two results (sorted from low to high room rate) from the Starwood website for checkin May 25, checkout May 27: "1 King Traditional Non-Smoking, Exterior View, Armchair And Ottoman, Dual-Line Ph W/Modem Jack, Desk Voicemail 3 Telephones Internet Only Fully Prepaid/Non-Refundable USD 59.95 "2 Queens Traditional Non-Smoking, Exterior View, Armchair And Ottoman, Dual-Line Ph W/Modem Jack, Desk Voicemail 3 Telephones Internet Only Fully Prepaid/Non-Refundable USD 59.95" I noticed that the bargain rates seem to be for non-smoking rooms only. Kathy FoothillFlyer Apr 21, 02, 8:29 pm I have found the Sheraton Sunnyvale stingy on upgrades. I have been overcharged by FAZ, the acclaimed restaurant. At the Four Points, they have on several occassions upgraded me to this really nice two floor suite, and, as noted, the VERY nice Faultline Brewery is but stagg..., I mean, walking distance away! debo_nair Apr 22, 02, 10:26 am Kathy, I dont know why i am not getting these rates.. are u logging into ur preferred guest and checking rates and are u going to www.starwood.com (http://www.starwood.com) or www.preferredguest.com (http://www.preferredguest.com) or www.spg.com? (http://www.spg.com?) MileKing Apr 22, 02, 11:56 am Not sure why you are having trouble pulling up the rates, but I have seen something very unusual with other hotels on spg.com. If you enter a city/state name where you are interested in staying, you will get the full list of area hotels (Westins, Sheratons, etc.). From this list you can click on the name of the hotel or on the Check Availability link for each hotel. If you click on the hotel name link (bringing you to the hotel's page) and then check rates from there, you will frequently get different (usually higher) rates than if you had just checked availability through the initial availability link. Don't know why this is, but it happens a lot. Suggestion is to check both ways. Kathy KathyWdrf Apr 22, 02, 7:39 pm One thing to be aware of is that the rates are not always sorted from lowest to highest. You can re-sort them by using the "sort" options on the left side of the web page. Perhaps the sort order is the source of some of the problems in finding the lowest rate? Kathy RTWSTARALLIANCE Mar 28, 03, 8:37 am I did a search. Nothing recent except a person having trouble getting credit for spg.com prepaid stay. Something I'll probably have to deal with later. Can anyone tell me about treatment of Plats recently and how was stay? Looks like a older property. Please advise. Thanks DawgmanOH Mar 28, 03, 9:00 am Good morning, I stayed at this hotel two weeks ago and would gladly stay again. I am Platinum and was upgraded to the Club Level (it seems to be one wing of the hotel, right near the lobby). It may not be the prettiest hotel but service was great, the room was a nice size and the Club Lounge had very good food for both evening and morning. Other pluses include high speed internet access, good restaurant, great location for Sunnyvale or Mountain View customers, close to the airport RTWSTARALLIANCE Mar 28, 03, 9:29 am Thanks. I'll be there since I am prepaid. Sounds ok given the rate. AA_SPG_Fan Mar 28, 03, 10:23 am Hi ... I stay there often and they treat PLT very well (at least me) with always a upgrade to CLUB with their Cont'l Bfast and evening snacks/drinks. The hotel isnt the prettiest and is more of a fancy motel, but I love the restaurant associated with it and the great service/staff. bruin Mar 28, 03, 10:52 am I completely agree with everyone. Not a bad hotel at all for this area. Granted, it's not the prettiest, but the free high-speed internet connection (in the club level) and the outstanding staff in the club lounge more than make up for it. Room is typical older Sheraton. snorkmaster Mar 28, 03, 11:01 am I assume the lounge is closed on the weekends? Their rates are really low and I was thinking about heading down for a night to rack up some credit towards the Y-whatever bonus I'm registered for... [This message has been edited by snorkmaster (edited 03-28-2003).] RTWSTARALLIANCE Mar 28, 03, 11:06 am Same as me. I'm outbound and going for the stay before flight. My reservation has been "taken" over by Sheraton so let the upgrade begin. Thanks VPescado Mar 28, 03, 11:11 am <font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by RTWSTARALLIANCE: I did a search. I have to say that this was cleared up quickly by the Lurker. Appearently the problem was that the pre-paid rate had been entered in the system as non-starpoints eligible. Hopefully this won't be an issue for you. As Gold I was treated very nicely. Upgraded to SPG/Club building. Room had a fridge and other typical Sheraton club amenities (e.g. robe). Was given two vouchers for the breakfast buffet at the restaurant without asking (this was on a weekend, perhaps the club room has a breakfast during the week). I was mildly annoyed at first that the restaurant would not let us order off the menu and use the vouchers for restaurant credit, but quickly realized that the breakfast buffet was quite good (choice of cereals, milk, juices, bacon, french toast, scrambled eggs (not over cooked), bread and toast with a toaster available, granola, bacon, and sausage). In retrospect I was glad that we went with the buffet. The hotel does seem to have a resident (likely unofficial) cat wandering around the grounds. Although wary of people, it seemed too well fed, and too familiar with navigating stairways and walkways not to be a resident. It is an older property, and as been described before is in the style of an improved motel with very nice landscaping. It is two story with rooms opening to internal hallways. One downside is no elevator, so you might want to request first floor if you don't want to lug your stuff up stairs. For weekend stays, it is probably the best value in the area (Sheraton San Jose, and Four Points Sunnyvale are typically about 10 bucks cheaper but don't give you the breakfast. kv99 Mar 28, 03, 11:51 pm I keep looking to try this hotel when I'm working in the area, but I can't seem to get the rate below about $165 (corporate, AAA, etc...) Any thoughts? I usually end up at the 4 Points or at the Sheraton San Jose, both of which are fine, but I'd like to give this one a shot as well. stimpy Mar 29, 03, 11:13 am Back in 2000, I stayed there quite often. Is the Persian restaurant Fez still there? That place was great! Eastbay1K Mar 29, 03, 11:34 am Faz is still around (well from day to day in the Bay Area you never know these days) - when the lounge is closed on the weekend, you get a coupon for Faz breakfast. RTWSTARALLIANCE Mar 30, 03, 3:55 pm My stay was this past weekend. The Hotel is much better than the Hyatt SJC which was the alternative. It was motel like but renovated and clean. Very quiet. "Club" was by key access. Lounge not open on weekends. Was not offered a vouchers for breakfest (think continental) so you must ask. My only negative was the short shower curtain which allowed water to create small lake on floor. This is a excellent value, good location, good staff and clean. Bravo! jlcchien Nov 12, 07, 12:43 am anyone has a recent stay experience at this hotel? Any Platinum member got a good upgrade? schriste Nov 12, 07, 8:59 am This is an older low-rise campus style hotel. The rooms have been renovated this year and are an improvement, but still nothing special. They have new carpet, furniture, flat panel TV (with usual crappy analog cable selection) and a renovated bathroom with granite countertop and subway style tiles in the bath (mediocre shower pressure). The landscaped central pool area is pleasant. I have stayed here a number of times on cheap weekend rates and have never been upgraded to anything other than an interior view room (preferable to street or parking lot). I don’t think they have much of anything to upgrade you to. They give breakfast vouchers when the Club Lounge is closed on the weekends. If you can get a good rate here it is an OK place to stay (my weekend rates have varied between $59 and $89) Wilbur Nov 12, 07, 1:25 pm And furthermore the rates there are sometimes pricey, given the mediocre offerings of rooms and services. This appears to be driven by tour groups - the hotel regularly has one or two large tour buses parked outside, and several dozen Korean tourists coming in late and leaving early. For the best daily rate, you often have to stay for three-plus days, because the single or two-day stay prices are pretty high otherwise. gabo02 Oct 8, 09, 11:50 pm Sheraton has a great deal all the way till December. Its a Fun Weekend Rate @ $59. Its a great hotel!!!! Will be there tomorrow!!! |
