I have a stay coming up at the Westin Copley in Boston. I am hoping to be gold (obtained through a promo) by the time of the stay. What can I expect to receive in terms of a room for being gold?

I'm a Platinum who will be staying there next month--any comments on what I can expect?

I'm Platinum, and stay at the Copley every other week. Typical upgrades to me - which I get 100% of the time - are to their nice corner rooms. These rooms are nice and big (by Boston standards), recently redecorated, and come with either King or two Queen beds. They also have very nice, large desks for work, with data ports, and all the fixins. Mini bar as well.

The Copley is a very popular convention hotel, and is often quite full. In terms of upgrades, it matters if you stay at the Copley often, as I do. Best bet: call now, ask for the Front Desk, and see if they can pre-block you into a corner room as mentioned above. They call them "Jr. Suites". I have found the Copley staff to be very accomodating, if you're nice to them.

P.S. The lobby bar - "Bar 10" - is usually pretty hoppin, but rather small.

As a Platinum, I've gotten a nice, but small river view room on their club floor. Yes, they are one of the very few Westins with a Club. Other than that, no special treatment.

Should I request a corner suite as a gold?

I stayed last month with my girlfriend (we're both gold) and we only got a 'view upgrade.' It was a nice view though on the river side.

Stayed there for the first time in November as Pt, and got a junior suite, but it wasn't a corner. Still, quite nice with two separate rooms. Wasn't told about the Club, however.

Greetings All,
The Westin Copley in Boston is a very good hotel with a great location. It has been made much better by a very fine renovation of guest rooms and lobby.
The club floor which used to be the #1 floor in the good old days no longer has a club lounge.
It has been closed just over a year ago to save the hotels owners money from an insider @ the hotel.
Was Told to many Golds and Platinums were requesting upgrades to the club level. What a shame.
This doesn't have a lot of logic with Marriott housed in the same complex and a nice club lounge set up.
My guess is they are banking on the Heavenly bed and the new renovation to be the selling point. Not a bad package as they did a very fine job across the board here. There past record for upgrading Platinums has been less then stellar. But not unsatisfactory by any means. It just some times takes a little creativity.Or a contact from frequent stays there. They have had over the years some very nice staff.Like any hotel high turnover over the months /years
I recieved my upgrade at check in at the Westin Copley by calling the Marriott Copley on my cell phone at the front desk. Then offering to cancel the westin res and move acorss the complex and check in at the Marriott and get upgraded as a Plat to their Club floor. They decided the upgrade would be better off being granted as the hotel was slow anyway then losing the revenue/reservation.I declined a run down suite with scatched furniture and stained carpets (now since corrected) in favor of my suggestion a stellar view club floor exec guest room. They eventually gave in.
The good news at the Westin great choice of restaraunts in the complex, high quality consistency in the guest rooms after years of faded former glory. If you become a regular you will get better treatment. For that matter at any hotel. If it has a quality management team and staff. At this point I would still highly recommend this property as long as the sky high prices don't concern you.It still has a very good act.Even if you have to understand this property a little more then others to get better accomodations.Yes the corner Jr.suites are the bigger accomodations but they are not always the choice rooms view wise. Some overlook parking lots.If only the size and quality of the room count you will be highly satisfied
Happy Travels

Or, if you prefer not having to play games about an upgrade, would like a great view, AND a nice club level with said great view, why not stay at the Sheraton Boston, which features a location that is just as good, with rates that are generally lower than the Westin.

Ahhh 777global you take me back ...
I used to stay at the Copley back in the mid-90's when the Westin Executive Club existed. (prior to starwood...) Every time, a nice handwritten note, tons of personal service, more than I could ever describe ... way above what the Westin program called for, but it was a little more money to buy up to that floor. I think I still have some of the schwag they packed me away with in a goodie box after a long stay. SIGH.... those were the days.

Though the Jr. Suites back then were awfully nice, if they have done any remodel to the rooms, I am sure they are still the way to go. I really enjoyed that hotel.

Good point about the Sheraton in Boston near the Westin.Outstanding track record with Platinums and upgrades.Great river view Rooms and Jr suite upgrades for plats with the ability to use the club floor lounge. This is a hotel that has a solid SPG system in place.
Now if they could just pass the secrets to a few brother and sister properties nationwide we would have a bit more glue in the relationship.Less reason to defect for a $ or miles elsewhere.........During a convention with many guest swarming in the lobby angry at having to wait till 5 pm to check in they let me know my suite was pre blocked and ready for an immediate check in.
While I was delighted the other guests were ready to lynch the poor check in agent when they saw him hand me my key.
Now thats elite status at its finast moment.Got over my guilt as I drank my welcome ammenity and watched the Charles River. To the good life!Thank you Sheraton Boston for your true concern for our business.Bravo!
Now for the downside. The service is more uneven within the hotel .During some peak times they are overwhelmed and under staffed with no one picking up the phone after 30 rings. The Westin runs a tighter ship has better newer decor and of course the Heavenly Bed .Now a closed club floor lounge arrrrgh!
Is there a perfect SPG world? So far only @ the Sheraton Towers South Gate in Melbourne Australia The dream Plat Experience. The truth be known one of the very best reasons to always remain Platinum.............
Will be there first week in April for my 5th or 6th stay.Wish they were a little closer so I could live there!
It is a Luxury Collection property that reaches the pinacle of perfection in my book see former trip reports if interested.Or my report under search "Platinum stay of a lifetime"
Happy Travels All..........
