I received the card for my Platinum amenity upon checking in without asking. As my handle suggests, I live for points, so I chose the 500 bonus points.
Put on the 23rd floor and given access to the lounge on the 44th floor. Didn't actually visit the lounge, since it seemed a bit of a hassle to go down to 1 and back up on a different bank of elevators. Besides, in New York, who needs a hotel lounge when there's the whole world outside my door? A world where a deli sandwich costs $16, no less!
I got charged $16 for a can of Diet Coke I drank out of the minibar and also was charged $40 for a series of "toll-free" calls made from the hotel. The phone charges weren't unexpected, but when I told the desk clerk that the literature in the room said that the first 20 minutes of calls were free, he said it hadn't been that way for quite some time, and he took ALL the calls off the bill. And he removed the minibar charges with a smile.
The hotel? Typical NY city hotel with small rooms at outrageous prices and room service prices that would startle anyone ($48 for a sandwich, green salad, and 2 bottles of domestic beer). But I was very satisfied with my stay and my point/stay credits including the 500 Platinum points posted within 24 hours.
