Starwood Preferred Guest - No Starpoints for Meals/Food at Westin?

My wife and I just completed a 4 night stay at the Westin in San Antonio. Kudos to the hotel and staff - definitely a premier property. We did receive the appropriate starpoints for the room rate ($200/night) and the 1000 point/night bonus, but we did not receive any points for dollars spent on meals/food at the hotel? Has there been a policy change or do I need to take this up with customer service?

Did you ask to have the food service charges added to your hotel bill, or give them your Starwoods # when you dined?

I am curious to know the answer. How does one be sure to get credit for the restaurant charges?

Also, was this downtown or the La Cantera golf resort? We want to stay at the downtown location the next time we get to play tourist in our home town of SAT. Already done the La Cantera location recently.

That's always what I do, and I have no problem getting all the points...

Thanks to everyone for their patience while I researched this situation.

The key to getting Starpoints for meals at our participating properties, whether you are a guest or not, depends upon whether or not there is an agreement between both parties for meals at the restaurant to be charged to your room. As long as your total bill is a $10USD equivalent before taxes, if the hotel and the restaurant allows meals to be charged to your room, you will be eligible to earn Starpoints. Again, this is regardless of whether you are a registered guest of the hotel, or not.

Anyone who is able to meet this criteria and has been denied credit in the past should send a copy of their hotel bill or credit card statement showing the charge via fax to the U. S. Account Service Center at 512-836-4002. Tell them William sent you. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif I apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may create, but it is necessary to ensure your account is credited properly.

In the meantime, an informational directive will be sent to all participating hotels clarifying this issue for them. Hopefully, this will not be a problem much longer.

In regard to the St. Regis Washington D.C., I placed an anonymous call to the front office of the hotel asking them if I was a guest at their hotel, could I charge meals at the Timothy Dean restaurant to my room? Julia in guest reception advised that I would be able to do so. (is that slawecki's fax machine I hear purring?) Seriously, I think denying Starpoints for meals at this hotel was an honest misunderstanding which will be addressed internally. I appreciate the opportunity this situation offered in correction going forward and was pleased to be of assistance.

One last suggestion, if you are dining at a participating hotel's restaurant and encounter a "deer in the headlights look" from your waiter or restaurant manager, ask them, "If I was a registered guest of this hotel, could I charge this meal to my room?" If they answer affirmatively, rest assured that you will receive your Starpoints, one way or another.

I did charge all the meals/food to the room but didn't receive any starpoints credit. I guess I'll have to take it up directly with Starwood Customer Service.

STC,
I have always had fantastic luck calling the hotel directly and talking to the front office supervisor or whoever they have handling the crediting of points. This is much quicker then faxing a copy to Customer service. Now, if they deny you the credit then talk to Customer Service and they will take care of everything. At least it has my experience with them.
