I'm a bit of a rookie here, hoping that someone can assist. I'm not at Starwood properties very often but my fiance and I are staying at the Westin Copley in Boston for New Years. I have Starwood Corporate Preferred Status and have 2232 Starwood points in the bank. What would you recommend to get the best room possible? Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

The 'Junior Suite' upgrades given to Preferred members are one of two types:

An oversized room with a sitting area. Much like a studio apartment. These rooms end with a 12, 13, 18 or 19.

A corner suite with a seperate desk/work area seperate from the bedroom area with the couch. I actually think the square footage of this type room is less than that of the oversized room. These rooms end with a 01.

The standard rooms are just that - standard. But, the entire hotel underwent a rennovation this year, so they're all appointed nicely with the latest amenities and, of course, the heavenly bed.

Does corporate membership give suite upgrades like Platinum? If so, then just wait and see what you get when you check-in. As long as they're not too full, you should be fine. Maybe put a note in your record for a high floor facing the Charles River.

Corporate preferred is something less than gold, so I wouldn't get your hope up too high for any sort of upgrade of substance.

I spent two years at a specific dorm at a certain university in Boston (warren towers, anyone?) just to have that charles river view.

If you can get that type of a view, which I had no idea you could at this hotel, go for it!!

The higher floors afford a great view of it, and Cambridge. I've enjoyed this view on many stays.

Four years at Warren Towers?!?! Dewd, you are out of Purgatory for time served!

I had 1 year at Sleeper, and 3 at miles, with a halfway decent view of the Charles from the 9th floor my senior year.

Wow...wasn't Warren Towers originally built to be a prison of some sort or is that just urban legend? I agree that it's worth it to put up with the building for the great views, though.

Legend, legend, legend. However it WAS *designed* by the architect of a minimum-security women's prison.

I said the VIEWS were good http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif -- if you faced the river. Otherwise, you wound up facing Comm. Ave (decent) or B or C tower bedrooms (scary...)

I was there my first two years, and happily moved off-campus after that.

Best, Lewis
