Starwood Preferred Guest - Best way to secure a suite on New years in SF?

I'd like to use my points to get a room at the W in SF on New Year's Eve. Anyone have an experience of getting upgraded to a suite at this hotel on New Year's Eve or at any hotel on New Year's Eve or at this hotel on any day (lol)?

I should make PLT in about a week and I'll try to book the room at that time.

I have stayed at this W many times. I have never been upgraded to a suite. I was told that they have only three in the entire hotel. I have had much better luck at the Palace. Based on my experience, the Westin St Francis is not an option.

Thanks for the input! I called the hotel (the W) to ask if I could reserve a suite and I was told that they don't have any. lol.. Anyways I think I may have a better chance of being upgraded at the Palace and am looking forward to staying there after hearing about the renovations.
