Starwood Preferred Guest - Sheraton Auckland (NZ) or Hyatt Auckland?

Hi, I will be in the country in about 2 weeks. I was wondering if anyone could give me a piece of advice - which property I should choose.

I am a Platinum member with Starwood and Diamond with Hyatt (I also have the suite upgrade certificate). Both hotels are category 1, so maybe it's not that fancy anyway???

Thanks in advance.

I have stayed at both, and would definately recommend the Sheraton. It underwent a major refurb about 2 years ago, and is much nicer that the Hyatt. The hyatt is looking abit old in the tooth. The sheraton has a nice executive lounge, with tasty nibblies, and generous drinks. Go with the Sheraton.

Thanks alexbs. I will go with Sheraton. The price difference (between Sheraton and Hyatt) is only NZ$25 (like US$10)!

I have been at both hotels within the last
four months. I would recommend without
question to Hyatt. The Sheraton is ok but
nothing good is happening around the Hotel.
Almost everything is a taxi ride. The Hyatt
was newly renovated with a very nice lounge.
As a Diamond received a upgrade to two room
(bedroom and living room with extra half
bathroom) suite on highest floor. View of
harbor. From the Hyatt the downtown area is
just a nice walk. The park and AU are
nearby. The only reason I stayed at the
Sheraton was to use those $50 vouchers. I am
P w/ SPG. The Hyatt is building a
residential tower so you may inquire about
construction. If they have a GP promotion on
this makes the Hyatt an even better point
earner. Just my opinion. They were taking
UA discount certs. at the Hyatt.

I would recommend the Hyatt for these reasons:
It is much closer to the city, 3 or 4 minute walk, whereas from the Sheraton you either have to take their shuttle or a taxi to town.
The check in staff at the Sheraton was unable/unwilling to process an instant award upgrade request.

Now I need to think again...

Hyatt accepted UA 50, so the room rate is now only NZ$130 (Sheraton: NZ$175)!

I have to agree about the location - I remember climbing up the hill to go back to the hotel from downtown.

If you are talking about the Hyatt that is
one up and one down. Sounds like a push.
Enjoy the Hyatt.

I just got back from a three week trip that included three nights at the Hyatt in Auckland. I booked a suite through the Hyatt website at about $199 USD. Was I pleasantly surprised..make that really really happy to be in the Presidential Suite. The hotel was great although a little short-staffed. The bartender in the lobby bar was so cool...and yes, the snacks were great. Finally, we walked everywhere...never using a cab once. But I will always remember that hill. Enjoy your stay in beautiful New Zealand!

Hmmm...3 Hyatt vs. 1 Sheraton.

When we stayed at the Hyatt, they had a strange "two dinks max." policy in the RC - is it still that way ?

At the Hyatt I think you do have to pay after
the second drink in the RC. At least they
have one. It seems the only item is that
hill. The hill outside the back side of the
Sheraton is just as bad. If you book the
Sheraton do not get a room in the front of
the Hotel. There is a bus stop and the
noise catches on the front of the Hotel.

And food was much better in the RC than on the tower's floor in the evening .
