I know you can transfer points to miles but is the reverse possible? If not (Lurker) do you see this in the future?

If not (Lurker) do you see this in the future? Starwood Lurker Oct 8, 01, 7:37 pm No, WeLookGood, transfers from the airlines to Starwood Preferred Guest is not possible at this time. I would never say "never" because that's a long time, but I do not look for this to be an added benefit of Starwood Preferred Guest in the forseeable future. Best regards, William R. I just sent 20K DL miles over to HHonors (40K) as a 2nd choice--I think it should be >=60K. VicOsaki Oct 13, 01, 2:58 pm Brendan, Don't they give you an incredible haircut when you transfer FF miles to Hilton points? Don't you lose like 60% of their value? chix Oct 13, 01, 4:09 pm <font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by VicOsaki: Brendan, Don't they give you an incredible haircut when you transfer FF miles to Hilton points? Pretty good deal when you tansfer airline to HHonors (depending on the airline). mypriceline.com Oct 13, 01, 7:39 pm It's a pretty good deal if you transfer it to Hilton. But I still prefer Starpoints but it seems the only way is through AT&T or staying there... I have 50,000 airline miles and can't transfer them. Oh if I could transfer them even for 25,000 star points, it would make me so happy. ------------------ www.MyPriceLine.com (http://www.MyPriceLine.com)-a message board where others share winning airfare, hotel, or car rental bids from priceline.com. johnndor Oct 15, 01, 6:29 am 50,000 airline miles can be transferred for 100,000 Hilton points (some, not all, airlines). For preferred members, that is enough for a six night stay at properties around the world. Beckles Oct 15, 01, 8:59 am You can also use Diners Club as a conduit, but the exchange isn't that great, off the top of my head I believe the rates are: 50k miles = 50k DC points = 15k Starwood points (2500 DC points = 750 Starwood points, I think, off the top of my head) Brendan Oct 15, 01, 12:13 pm Vic, As I said in the first place, I think we deserve more than 2:1, but I took it because it's the only game in town & I have more use now for free rooms than free tickets. VicOsaki Oct 15, 01, 12:31 pm Hi Brendan, So you sent Hilton 20,000 Delta miles and you got 40,000 Hilton points. You're saying it's not a good deal? Let me ask you this. Can you transfer your Hilton points for Delta miles. Assume you can. If you took your 40,000 Hilton points, how many miles would you get? I'm not playing dumb. I don't know a thing about Hilton. Someone once told me that your kind of transfer caused quite a loss. ElvisNYC Oct 15, 01, 10:01 pm Vic, 40,000 HHonors points are worth 7,000 DL miles when using the reward exchange. Brandan, why do you believe the exchange ratio should be higher than 2:1 ?? For me 40000 HHonors points are more valuable than miles, specially if you have way too many miles already and redeem Point Stretcher Hotel Rewards only. VicOsaki Oct 16, 01, 3:23 am There's something wrong here. You start with 20,000 Delta miles which transfers to 40,000 Hilton points which transfers to 7,000 Delta miles. Hilton really makes out on roundtrips. That's quite a handling charge. VicOsaki Oct 16, 01, 3:34 am Beckles, while I know nothing about the Hilton program, I am very familiar with Diners. The simple descripton of their transfer is that you lose 50% of the value of your miles. That's bad. What's good is that when Diners and BA are having their double redemption promotion which they've had for the last few years you can use Diners to transfer AA, UA or DL miles to BA without a haircut. It's a great deal. We got three first class tickets to Europe on BA by a combination of the double transfer and transfering some odds and ends from domestic programs through Diners. BA is also the only program that I know of that allows you to pool the accounts of family members. That also helped. |
