Starwood Preferred Guest - AMEX Plat and 50%-off Leisure Certificate

This card is supposed to come with a 50%-off leisure certificate, and when I received my card I noticed in the small print that it said to get the certificate if you are a Gold or Platinum member to call 1-800-625-4988. However, when I call this number I get a message saying this number is not eligible from my calling area or something like that. Anyone have any idea of where else I could call or write to get this certificate? Thanks.

In general, the 50% off rate will be 50% of rack rate, which is rarely charged in US. The saving tends to be between -20 and +20%.

The cost to use the 50% off in London is usually about a 30-50% increase.(the 50% off rate does not include VAT)

There is significient saving in Italy, as rooms are usually sold at rack rate, and a true 50% saving can be realized.

Is this a *wood branded Plat Amex card or just a "regular" Amex?

slawecki: I'll try that other number, and I know these aren't often the best deal when rack rates are involved. Thanks for the insight into geographic differences.
