We're headed over to the W at Diamond Head next week. Has anyone been there recently? Wondered if they've had much occupancy following the events on 9/11. Thanks for any input.

I stayed there last year, before I moved here. It's a really nice place on the "Gold Coast" toward Diamond Head from Waikiki. It's not directly beachfront: It sits on Kalakaua Ave. in front of a nice stretch of Kapiolani Park, with a condo building between it and the ocean. There is ocean access if you want a quick dip, although not much of a beach. But Sans Souci (or Kaimana) beach is right down the street, Queen's Surf is just past the Natatorium and the Aquarium, with Kuhio Beach Park (the Diamond Head end of Waikiki)just beyond that.

I live just across Kapiolani Park from this hotel now - it's a great area. Enjoy.

I stayed there 9/29 and the staff told me that the hotel had about 60% occupancy. The restaurant does not serve breakfast or lunch anymore. Dinner and the bar are still available. I was at the bar on the Saturday night and it was very slow. The bartender said that the Friday nights were still busy. The 24 hour room service is available or you can go next door to the New Otani to have breakfast/lunch.

What a shame - my wife and I stayed there for a night over the 7/4 holiday and thought they had one of the best hotel breakfasts we'd run into in a long time - much better than the 4S Wailea.

We're arriving for 3 nights on the 16th. I just called the hotel to confirm - dinner only. The receptionist said they were busier during the weekends than during the week. Guess we'll have a quiet time.
