Starwood Preferred Guest - 5K SP ASAP

I am trying to bump up from 15K to 20K SP to get the 5K bonus to add to some NW WP miles for my honeymoon trip to Brazil and I was wondering if there was some way to do that in one month or so. I have the SP AMX and have about 300 SP coming in this month (and only a $3000 limit unfortunately). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

How's about a trip to the lovely Burlington Mall?

Four Points, Burlington, MA. Been $59/nt for weekends this summer - haven't checked this week, though. Friday and Sunday (out for a day makes it two stays) would net 2 x 59 if Gold, 3 x if Plat per night plus 500 per for each web booking and 500 per for SW Optima bonus. My guess would be five weekend nights for about $300 plus tax and you're flying down to Rio.

Also if you sign up for inside flyer magazine through the starwood site you will receive 1200 starpoints. I think this is still going on but not for sure.

If you're willing to call AMEX to see if they'll bump your credit limit, buy a fully refundable airline ticket for the $5k for a couple of months out. After your billing period closes, cancel the ticket and get a refund. You'll get the points in your SPG account. This will create a negative balance, but I don't think they'll take the points back the next month, you'll just have to spend your way back to the $5k.

This is a quick way to get the points. If you have a moral or ethical issue with "using" an airline for this purpose, then I don't have any other suggetions.
