Starwood Preferred Guest - For Starwood Lurker - Any points for "No Show" charges

Based on Gtd/Deposit Policy, guests' credit card is charged if he/she fails to cancel prior to 6:00 PM. My question is do SPG members get any points for such charge? Would this one-night charge be considered as a stay?

I'm not sure if it is done on a regular basis with all properties, but I have received credit for stays when my card has been charged, but I was a 'no show'. I think there are numerous threads about this topic, especially when it comes to stays at 'cheap' properties during promotions.

dabbagmm, if you "no-show" at a hotel or cancel after policy, you should receive Starpoints for the transaction, less any applicable taxes, if you can provide proof that the hotel charged you. Since you are being charged in the room revenue portion of your hotel bill, it almost always counts as a one night stay as well. There can be circumstances where you would receive the Starpoints, but not credit for the stay, however. If you experience something other than this, please let me know so I can follow up as exceptions are granted on a case by case basis.

Of course, this is only if you get charged http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif If you dispute the policy, and they dont charge you, you dont get the points.

I belive it was last year around December when we started looking for low rates to No-show on to get status.

What really amazed me is that if you arrive late in the evening, they may charge you as a no-show without bothering to inform you of this.

Last time I stayed at a Sheraton, we arrived about midnight. When we checked out, the bill didn't have the first night's stay on it. Very odd. Checked and found the money had been taken out of the credit card already.

It struck me as rather rude to do that and not inform guests. (But, yes, Starpoints were credited to my partner, whose booking it was.)

In a similar but slightly different vein, I have a question about priceline stays - no, NOT points! I know that points are earned only for extras.

I was due to stay at the Sheraton Gateway LAX at a priceline rate. NorthWest decided we didn't really want to go to LAX that night and cancelled our flight, so we couldn't use the room.

I know that there is no refund. No problem, that's the deal. My question is, does this count as a stay? The LAX front desk said they thought yes but the stay has not shown in my account, even though later stays (actual stays) do show.

Thanks.

Roger, Starwood Lurker has previously posted Starwood's policy as to Priceline stays (and other third-party prepaid arrangements as well). You only get credit for incidentals.
