I need to spend the night near the ATL airport soon. Which Starwood property should I choose, the Sheraton or the Westin?

I stayed at the Westin several months ago. While not the best hotel I've ever stayed in, it was certainly good for an airport hotel. No feedback 4u on the Sheraton.

I just stayed at the Sheraton. I've stayed there several times, never a complaint.

I've stayed at both, and while similar, the Westin does have a much more expensive restaurant--while the Sheraton has a 'buffet' nightly in their more casual restaurant. The Westin Airport is one of the few Westins with a Club floor--although the last time I was there it was closed for renovations. At the Westin, as a Platinum, I've always been placed on that floor, and generally have had a nice amenity basket awaiting me when I check in (and not the usual 2 waters & a stale popcorn). The Sheratons Club is smaller, but the food selection was pretty good.

I've stayed many times at both but like the Sheraton much more -- The rooms were much better IMHO

Do both hotels offer a shuttle service to and from ATL?

As far as I know, the shuttle service is between the various hotels and the airport. I don't know of any airport hotels that offerr a service to downtowwn.

NYC1 -- neither airport hotel offers a shuttle to downtown. (at least when i've stayed at them)

But do hey have shuttle service to and from the airport? That would be great and save me some money and time.

Punki, yes they (as well as all other airport hotels) offer a free shuttle service to and from the airport. Go out the main doors, and there will be signs for hotel shuttle service. It is a bit confusing when you get to that aisle, as there are no signs for specific hotel buses. You just have to watch for each one indiviudally. They do run all day at about 10-20 min intervals.

Was just at the ATL Westin for the little Atlanta get-together. Wasn't it great mauld?

Anyway, as Plt, got a nice corner suite, well more of an efficency, no room divider, so you may not want to bring clinets back, since no living room. The club is open, and since my room was on the floor below, I had to ask for a club access card. Also, no Plt amenity gift or water on arrival or at all.

To stop the confusion, "ATL" in my post referred to the airport, not downtown.

That's what I had assumed NYC1, but I wanted to be sure. If I arrive at night and take the shuttle to the airport, then I can just rent a car for my trip out to the burbs, dropping it off again on my return, which hopefully will speed up my trip to the airport in the AM as well as save a rental day.

I stayed at the Westin on the way in. Had a lovely room on Executive level. No suite, but I was really too tired to ask or care. Nice hotel.

I stayed at the Sheraton on the way out. This hotel is a little tired and it was very, very noisy. Kids running around everywhere and very noisy adults. They did give me a very large suite, however, and that was quite pleasant as I did not feel well and ended up spending the entire afternoon and evening in my room.

In the future, I think I'll choose the Westin.

If you need to get into downtown without a car, do what I do. Take the shuttle to the airport, and spend the $1.75 (each way) to ride the MARTA train to where you need to go.

Stay at The Westin, w/o a doubt.

Their service levels are higher. Staff is incredibly friendly. They have "Heavenly Beds".....need I say more?

Oh yes, spiceman, I forgot to say that the attendant in the club lounge was amazingly good AND refused a tip, assuring me that her only goal was to make me happy--that was her "job" and she couldn't accept anything from me for doing her job well.
