Has anybody had experience with Starwood Properties on the Big Island in Hawaii? I've booked five nights at the Orchid (not using any points)but am getting different opinions as to where we should stay during our visit. Thoughts/suggestions/comments would be very welcomed. If there is somewhere else you would recommend, I'd love to hear about it. Thanks!

I did do a search before I posted (you certainly make assumptions). I still would like the information that I asked for.

Hey IM4Travel, why don't you take it on the road buddy. You apparently have an uncanny knack for reading people's minds the way you KNOW that the information being requested is already in the archives.
It is the rude, presumptive attitude you bring to this that really ticks a lot of people off and intimidates them in their posting...but not me obviously. I feel you owe this person an apology, or an exit from this forum. Notice I give my opinion and word it in such a way as to make it obvious that it is an opinion...you state yours as though it is fact.
Now, to answer the question. I don't know much about the Orchid, but I have a friend who is a native Hawaiian, grew up on the Big Island, has a LOT of money, and chose the Orchid as his wedding and honeymoon site. The pictures I saw of the grounds looked incredible. I don't think you could go wrong, here but keep in mind that is not from personal expereience.

To be honest with you...I could really care less what you think...there is much info on the question in the archives and that's where a search should have been done...as to your little game-playing by bringing one of my old threads up...if you would have bothered to look...you would see that I was brand new....registered 6/2000....this person already posted 85 or so times...no excuses. Mind your own business.
Mind my own business? Grow up my friend. Your response sounds like what an abusive parent or spouse would say to someone trying to intervene. Surely you can do better than that.

I refuse to let you "bait" me any further...if it's flaming you're looking for....go elsewhere.

Dingo: Based upon your actions, it must be true what they say about southern gentlemen and their chivalry! Thank you for "sticking up" for me and my posting. It is greatly appreciated and affirms my belief that for the most part, people in this community are kind and decent. Obviously, IM4Travel must be having a bad day.

ldsant, have a great time in Hawaii. I have posted a lot of info about the Orchid, which is one of my favorite hotels. I won't repeat any of it here, but you've said you searched and didn't find the info you wanted. What do you want to know?

It is a beautiful property, I stayed there many times when it was a Ritz-Carlton, but have not had the opportunity since it became the Orchid, great location, great golf.

I must say that as much as I enjoy Starwood, if I were going to the big island (and paying for it), I would only go to the Four Seasons. It is simply the best hotel that I have ever been to anywhere in the world!
The Orchid is a gorgeous hotel. I can never get enough days there. I returned from a 6 night stay there in January after being there 2 years ago.
There is a $12 resort fee which includes "free" classes such as Yoga, Hawaiian crafts, etc..., 2 bottles of water nightly, free use of snorkel gear, local calls (i believe). I used starpoints and a free friday so I couldn't complain about the fee although this has been a sore topic on FlyerTalk.
There are hammocks right by the ocean and the sun always seems to go down right behind the palm trees. The resort has it's own lagoon where all kinds of fishes can be seen with the use of the free snorkel gear. There are also endangered sea turtles in the lagoon who often come ashore on the property. Whales can often be seen from the resort depending on the season. The torches are lit every evening around 6pm. Ahhhh memories. My wife and I rank the Orchid along with the Princeville among our favorite hotels of the entire Starwood Properties.
