Starwood Preferred Guest - For SPG Pt: Comp Avis Preferred Select

Listed under Program Partners in this year's Pt benefits booklet is "Avis offers Platinum Preferred Guests complimentary membership to Avis Preferred Select, available by invitation only...." This was not available in the Year 2000 T&Cs

A search of the Avis board showed past posts showed little more for Preferred Select than merely Preferred. Automatic car upgrades for Select, and according to some posters, double mileage for some airlines. But the SPG booklet states 50 Starpoints per day, as usual, if you choose Starpoints.

Anyways I did call SPG and the concierage did not seem familiar with it and had to look it up. There is no SPG code, just call Avis.

I did that, and Avis also did not seem familiar with it, but eventually transferred me to a Select(?) rep. She asked where I got it, told her saw it in SPG Pt benefits, waited and she then took my Avis Preferred/Wizard membership code and said to expect my Select card in 7-10 days.

what r the key benfits of being Avis elite?

Free 1 car-class upgrade upon availability...I get it almost 100% of the time....and also they drop you off right at your car...no need to go to the desk..saves time.

Plain (as opposed to Select) Preferred members also get the at-the-car dropoff, and as a regular Preferred, there's only been one time in the last year I haven't gotten an upgraded car. So Select appears to be pretty useless unless there's some other benefit.

It IS pretty useless..never said it was anything special.

Wow, as a mere Preferred for the past 4 years, I have never gotten an upgrade. Must be the airports I go to or they just don't like the way I look http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif. So being Select will get me something.

So then... how do I get this invitation? Maybe *wood lurker can help?

Gaucho100K, if you re-read my first post, I ended up just calling Avis (800-352-7900) and asking for it based on being SPG Platinum.

Try it and let us know what happened.

Platinum members wishing to use this benefit should call the Avis Preferred Select Desk at 1-800-331-1200. You can call Platinum Concierge for the reference code which will identify the caller as a Starwood Platinum Preferred Guest. Avis will know how to proceed from there.
