I have well over 100 nights this year with Marriott and am PLT there.
Does anyone know who to write to at starwood to get comp PLT status?
I am currently PLT with Starwood this year - yet have only accrued 28 nights there so far this year. Help..
Thanks

Having been comped a few times by certain companies, I am all in favor of comping under certain circumstances, ie., when you are considering changing brands, or are just starting a pattern of frequent travel.
But the bottom line is that you travelled enough to earn Platinum on Starwood, and you chose not to. It is not as if you were not Platinum, and couldn't get a room for those stays. As a platinum member, you had the ability to get a room at a Starwood property each time, but instead, the vast majority of times, you chose a competitor. I would see no reason for Starwood to give you Platinum status again.

Whoa - rather judgemental...freeupgrade simply asked for a contact name. If he/she wishes to pursue a comp, regardless of circumstance, why do you care?

I would suggest contacting the Platinum conceirge desk.
Nonetheless, given that you CHOSE OTHER PROPERTIES, why should Starwood give you platinum benefits again? If you thought they were so valuable, you would have stayed there. As a platinum member, it's not like you couldn't get a room.
If I were in their position, I would ask for a good reason, and unless you have one, I see no reason why you should dilute others' status. You appear to be a Marriott loyalist, and have rejected Starwood, even though you had access to their best.
I just think asking for it under these circumstances shows a lot of chutzpa, and I wouldn't do it under the circumstances.
Anyone else on my side?
I agree with BoSoxFan45. The key point is that freeupgrade is already Platinum with Starwood and chose to take his business elsewhere.

BoSoxFan45 says it all,
freeupgrade, you said that you spent over 100 nights at marriott.. i think (i am not sure) that marriott requires only 75 nights/year to get their top status.. i dont know why you spent the extra 25 nights with them.. 25+28(you already have)=53 nights=platinum status with starwood with out asking for comp.. i dont know, but maybe you travel takes you somewhere that has no starwood property. anyhow give them a call and let us know what happen.
good luck.

Tolarian Wind-
I have been staying in Starwood properties, and next month I will be Platinum. Besides, this isn't about me.
My colleagues are less travel-savvy than I, and I have been trying to help them gain the benefits they can gain by knowing what we all know on this board.
Many of them stay at any old hotel, unaware of the beneifts they could receive staying anywhere. Often times, these people have stayed weeks at a Westin or a Hyatt, or some other hotel without even knowing that a Frequent Guest program existed, forefieitng status and thousands of points.
As I was not platinum when this promotion was offered, I was unable to offer them such status. I'm trying to do ignorant people a favor, and I don't think I should be ripped for it.
The key point is

i would try either terry or jae, the two spg folks who monitor this board
or you could write in to spg via the feedback email form on the web site
fwiw, i think it's a perfectly legitimate request if you have a good reason
maybe there wasn't an spg property where you were working
or maybe you were forced by your company to stay at marriotts but now you're working
someplace else and are free to make your own plans

I think comps should be allowed if 1) someone can prove they have equal level at another company and 2) AFTER they have stayed a few times (5 nights?) at the basic level to insure the intent that they will become frequent guests. Sort of a "challenge" like AA has.
