I'm sure with all the Platinum and Centurion cardholders here, someone has used the Fine Hotels & Resorts program to book the Park Hyatt Tokyo. I'm hoping you can give me an idea of what to expect.

I just booked our May trip to Tokyo through FHR. I was surprised to discover the FHR rate was (slightly) lower than the rate I could get at Hyatt.com. So now I'm curious about what one can expect when staying at this hotel when booking through FHR.

FHR promises "upgrade when available," but I've seen some discussion on the Hyatt board indicating that the PHT never upgrades Hyatt elites. Is that also true of FHR bookings?

What sort of continental breakfast is included?

How is the complimentary afternoon tea?

Any idea what the "extra amenity" at this hotel might be?

Thanks for any light you can shed. We're really looking forward to our 9-night stay, regardless of any "extras."

I to have found these rates to be cheaper at peak season and you also get some nice extras.

-----------------------------------------
A room upgrade when available, upon check-in.
Daily continental breakfast for you and a guest.
Guaranteed four o'clock p.m. late check-out.
Complimentary formal afternoon tea service for two, once during your stay.

It's a fantastic hotel, and I've stayed there twice on the FHR program. Once was in 2001, and once last year, and the program had changed slightly between the two times. The first time, they had the "upgrade confirmed at time of booking" feature, and I took advantage of it. Now, it seems that they only do the space-available upgrade. I did get a slightly upgraded room this last time, but I don't know if it was because of the FHR program or because I was a repeat guest. The standard rooms are very large by Japanese standards, so it's not as much an issue as it might be at other hotels in town.

Breakfast is served in one of the lobby restaurants, and is quite good, although the selection isn't all that large.

The rooms are great and the service impeccable. I've never had the afternoon tea.

Have a great time.
