American Express Membership Rewards - Double Points on Taxes with SPG AmEx-True or False?

(I posted this at the Starwood forum, as well).

I've read here at FlyerTalk that one can use the SPG AmEx card to pay 2003 U.S. Federal taxes and get double Starpoints.

However, I have not seen anything official from American Express stating the double points offer to be true. I received on March 18, 2004 my SPG AmEx statement and there was nothing about being earning double Starpoints on taxes. There is nothing at the American Express website detailing this promotion that I could find.

Yes, there is information about such an offer using the Delta AmEx card and earning double points at the AmEx website.

Can anyone point me to something in writing from American Express saying that I can earn double Starpoints when paying my taxes? Otherwise, I have no proof that such a promotion exists.

I received a postcard the other day about the offer.

Turns out I blew it, actually. The offer started March 15th and I paid my taxes a few days before http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

And the crosspost in the SPG forum is now:

It's been close to a month and my bonus points have not shown up. How long should I wait before complaining?

I don't have the Starwood card, but I believe American Express usually advise that bonus points may take up to eight weeks to post. Never had to wait that long myself, though.
